An airbag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system is provided. The airbag module comprises an airbag, a gas generator, a gas generator support, and a visible surface facing the vehicle interior in the installed state formed by different segments of the airbag module. At least two of the segments comprise optically and/or haptically different surfaces and are mechanically connected to each other by means of mechanical interfaces such that the mechanical connection between the segments is at least partially released when triggered by opening the interfaces so that an opening is formed in the visible surface through which the airbag can exit the airbag module. All segments contributing to the formation of the opening for the airbag by opening the interfaces when triggered are thereby directly fastened to the gas generator support.

An airbag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system is provided. The airbag module comprising an airbag and having a visible surface, facing the vehicle interior when installed, which is formed by different segments of the airbag module, wherein at least two of the segments have optically and/or haptically different surfaces. At least two of the segments each have at least one mechanical interface by means of which they can be mechanically connected to at least one of the other segments, forming a connecting area, and at least one of the segments forms at least one tear line, wherein upon tearing open the tear line in the event of deployment an opening is produced in the visible surface through which the airbag can exit the airbag module. Here the mechanical interfaces are designed in such a way that upon tearing open the tear line they endure and do not open.

A film plate for an airbag cover is provided. The film plate is pre-formed by deep-drawing or embossing and is directly, without reinforcing elements, attachable to the airbag cover by mechanical connecting elements. The airbag cover has, at the location of the film plate, at least a partial support for the film plate and the film plate has an embossed structure on its lower side, which is visible on the upper side.

The invention relates to an airbag module for a motor vehicle, comprising a gas sack package comprising a gas sack, an additional moveable element configured and provided to influence a state variable of the airbag, and a gas-tight protective covering that defines an inner space of the gas sack package, wherein the gas sack and the moveable element are arranged in said inner space, and a separate movement generating device configured and provided to move the moveable element. According to the invention, the movement generating device is arranged outside the inner space of the airbag package.

Airbag module for a motor vehicle

An airbag module including a gas generator with at least one laterally projecting fastening portion; a generator support; an airbag with an inflation opening; a cover cap; and latching elements for connecting the generator support to the cover cap. The airbag has a plate proximate to the inflation opening, the plate including an opening for the gas generator. Latching elements are provided to hold the plate and the airbag connected thereto, and to hold the fastening portion of the gas generator situated between the generator support and the plate. The plate, at least in the region of these latching elements, is larger than the external dimensioning of the folded airbag in the region of the inflation opening.

Airbag module

An airbag fastening system in an airbag module has a clamping connection and includes a retaining ring for an injection orifice of the airbag in an airbag receptacle surrounding both the airbag module and the retaining ring. The retaining ring has a reducing width on an outer face in a main pulling direction when the airbag unfolds. At least a portion of the airbag receptacle or a component associated with the airbag receptacle has a smaller width above the retaining ring than a greatest width of the retaining ring. A lower end of the airbag forms the injection orifice, is folded over the retaining ring, and extends between the retaining ring and the airbag receptacle or the component. The retaining ring includes at least one portion having a conically tapered cross-section on the outer face in the main pulling direction when the airbag unfolds.

Airbag fastening system

A module assembly for an airbag device for protecting occupants of motor vehicles includes a carrier for the assembly, an inflatable airbag packet, a flexible protective envelope, and a fixing mechanism. The airbag packet is fixed to the carrier. The airbag packet is accommodated in the flexible protective envelope. The protective enveloped can be closed off in a gastight manner. The fixing mechanism fixes the airbag packet to the carrier. The fixing mechanism includes a holding element. The holding element, which includes a securing mechanism provided on the carrier to fix the airbag packet to the carrier, extends along an edge of the airbag packet. The securing mechanism is formed integrally on the carrier and is resiliently pivotable with respect to a lateral section of the carrier. Alternatively, the securing mechanism is fixed on the carrier as a separate assembly.

Airbag module assembly

A decorative element for cover caps of airbag modules is provided. The decorative element includes predetermined breaking points and/or bending points. As a result of the predetermined breaking points and/or bending points, the decorative element tears together with the cover cap when an airbag is deployed.

The invention relates to a steering wheel arrangement for motor vehicles, in which the risk of injury is reduced, should a driver impact against the steering wheel in the event of a crash. According to the invention the skeleton of the steering wheel arrangement has a compact body of deformable, energy absorbing material, in which the spokes of the steering wheel are fixed.

Steering wheel arrangement for motor vehicles

A motor vehicle subassembly including a steering wheel body and an airbag module is provided with the airbag module secured to the steering wheel via latching structure at spaced fastening points that allows removal of the module from the steering wheel body by releasing it at one of the fastening points. In this manner, the latching structureneed not be actuated at the other fastening points as well for airbag module removal. In a preferred form, an actuating element such as a spring member is provided for forming part of the latching connection between the steering wheel body and the airbag module. The latching structure can include latching elements at each fastening point having associated elastic elements such as helical springs for securing the airbag module with a prestress to the steering wheel body.

Motor vehicle subassembly

A device for actuating electric functional groups, in particular horns on the steering wheels of motor vehicles is disclosed. The device includes at least two opposing contacts which can be brought into contact with one another to actuate the functional group and which clean themselves by sliding against one another during contact. The opposing contacts are fixed to a respective support element with both of the elements being elastically deformable.

The invention relates to a steering wheel comprising a steering wheel body ( ), an airbag unit ( ), a detent connection for fixing the airbag unit to the steering wheel body, a contact device having a first and a second contact ( ) that are short-circuited for triggering an electric function element, especially an electric horn ( ), when the airbag unit is moved in a direction toward the steering wheel body by a pressure exerted on said airbag unit. According to the invention, one of the detent elements of the detent device is, at least in part, electrically conductive and simultaneously forms the first contact ( ) of the contact device. When an airbag is fastened according to the floating horn principle, the number of required parts is further reduced and it is possible to easily and securely fix the airbag unit to the steering wheel without the use of tools.

Steering wheel

An airbag for a motor vehicle, with at least one inflatable region which is capable of being inflated by means of a gas generator and in the inflated state forms a lateral curtain for protecting a vehicle occupant. When inflated the airbag is clamped between two points on the vehicle body which are separated from each other in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The airbag has a separation region, which may be an opening, that is bridged by a tautening element which is capable of being inflated together with the inflatable region. When the airbag inflates the opening deforms reducing the length of the opening in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
