A construction unit is provided, including a load-bearing frame including a plurality of upper horizontal members joined together at ends to form an upper frame portion, a plurality of lower horizontal members joined together at ends to form a lower frame portion, a plurality of vertical members joined to and vertically separating the upper frame portion from the lower frame portion, the vertical members being located at opposing corners defined by the upper frame portion and the lower frame portion. At least one hollow structural section is vertically positioned between the upper and lower frame portions and is fixed to the frame between adjacent pairs of the vertical members; and at least one sheathing panel joined directly to the at least one hollow structural section for forming a wall of the construction unit.

A structural wall for a building is provided and includes a frame having opposing sides and a height and at least one structural panel secured to one of the sides of the frame, wherein a length of the at least one structural panel is greater than the height of the frame. An upper track is positioned over an upper end of the frame and an upper end of the at least one structural panel on each of the sides of the frame and a lower track is positioned over a lower end of the frame and a lower end of the at least one structural panel on each of the sides of the frame.

A method is provided for assembling a wall system to an existing frame for a wall, floor or roof, including: attaching a first dense, fiber-reinforced cement panel to the frame, the panel having an interior surface facing the frame, and an exterior surface; applying a layer of acoustic dampening material is applied to the exterior surface; and attaching a second dense, fiber-reinforced cement panel to at least one of the dampening material, the first panel, and the frame. A building panel is provided, including, a first panel of dense, fiber-reinforced cement; an internal layer of acoustic dampening material; and a second panel of dense, fiber-reinforced cement such that the dampening material is sandwiched between the first and second cement panels.

A gasket for installation in a gap defined by adjacent modular construction units, each having a support frame. The gasket includes at least one layer of structural cement panel; and at least one layer of mineral wool, and the at least one layer of said panel and mineral wool has at least one plate recess configured for accommodating a support plate. A modular building construction is provided, including a plurality of modular units, each unit having a steel frame. Four adjacent units of the plurality form an intersection, and support plates are fastened at upper surfaces of corners formed by each frame. The gasket is disposed in a gap defined at the intersection, the gasket having four plate recesses for accommodating the support plates. In still another embodiment, a method of constructing a building made of modular units including the gasket.

A modular assembly is provided and includes a modular frame to be installed at least partially below grade and at least two panels attached to the modular frame, where the at least two panels are made of a material that withstands lateral, vertical and shear forces generated by surrounding below grade materials. The modular frame and the at least two panels are joined together as a unit prior to installation.

An attachment system is provided for attaching furring strips to joists, each such joist having a bottom surface, an upper surface and a sidewall. The attachment system for each furring strip including a fastener having a shaft and a head, the fastener secured to the sidewall of the joist in a position vertically displaced from the bottom surface. At least one length of wire is provided with a mid-portion and two free ends, the mid-portion being looped around the fastener. The free ends are wrapped around the furring strip and fastened to each other to securely hold the furring strip to the floor joist.

A floor-ceiling assembly is provided for joined upper and lower modular construction units, including a floor surface of the upper unit using structural cement panels; a floor grid including at least one floor joist and at least one beam each having an upper surface receiving said structural cement panels, a web and a lower surface. At least one connector plate is secured to the lower surface. A ceiling framework of the lower unit has at least one ceiling beam and at least one ceiling joist secured to each other, at least one of the beams is secured to the at least one connector plate. A resilient channel is secured to an underside of the ceiling framework, and a ceiling panel is secured to the resilient channel.
