An ultrasonic probe and a method for the nondestructive testing of a test specimen are described, which are activatable individually or in groups as phased array for the emission or reception of ultrasonic plate waves in a predefinable propagation direction in the test specimen wall to be tested. At least one ultrasonic transducer segment with at least two segment parts emits an ultrasonic plate wave field into the test specimen and which are activatable jointly and simultaneously as a phased array. The at least two segment parts are arranged along a common plane so that the ultrasonic wave fields provided from or received by the at least two segments mutually overlap and each have a main propagation direction which encloses an acute angle &#x3b1; in a projection of the plane.

An electromagnetic ultrasound transducer is disclosed for receiving linearly polarized horizontal shear waves from an electrically conductive workpiece including a magnetizing unit, which provides a side facing the workpiece, along which a number n of permanent magnets are attached in at least two rows arranged next to one another in such a manner that the magnetic polarities of the magnetic poles which face the side alternate along a row periodically with a period length which corresponds to a trace wavelength &#x3bb;and a HF coil arrangement with conductor sections in at least two rows running parallel to one another, through which current can pass in mutually opposite directions.

An EMUS transducer system for producing linearly polarized transverse waves having a variably predeterminable polarization direction within a test specimen containing at least ferromagnetic material portions and having a test specimen surface, a magnetization unit produces a magnetic field orientated parallel to the test specimen surface within the test specimen. At least one HF coil on the test specimen surface produces or detects a HF field combined with the magnetic field orientated parallel to the test specimen surface within the test specimen. The magnetization unit includes at least three magnetization bodies spatially separated from one another to introduce a magnetic field into the test specimen. The magnetic flux emanating from at least one of magnetization bodies a spatial direction relative to the test specimen surface is varied.

The invention relates to a method for nondestructive testing of a metallic workpiece () using an ultrasonic transducer testing head having the following steps: to generate an ultrasonic wave, an excitation pulse is transmitted using the ultrasonic transducer () to the workpiece (), a response signal is measured using the magnetic field sensor (), testing information, preferably transit time information of the ultrasonic wave and therefrom wall thickness information about the thickness of the workpiece (), is ascertained on the basis of an ultrasonic echo component of the response signal, and further information, in particular distance information about the distance of the testing head from the workpiece (), is ascertained on the basis of a magnetic field component of the response signal by supplementary analysis. The invention also relates to a corresponding analysis method for analyzing measurement data which has been ascertained using an ultrasonic transducer testing head and a system for nondestructive testing of a metallic workpiece.

An electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer for coupling-media-free generation and/or reception of ultrasonic waves in the form of linearly polarized transverse waves in and from a workpiece is disclosed, having at least one unit which converts the ultrasonic waves inside the workpiece and which is provided with a coil for generating, and/or detecting a high-frequency magnetic field and premagnetizing unit for generating a quasi-static magnetic field which superimposes the high-frequency magnetic field in the workpiece The coil is disposed in a torus-shape on at least one partially toroidal or U-shaped magnetic core, having two front ends which can be turned to face the workpiece. The front ends of the magnetic core, which can be turned to face the workpiece, are connected directly or indirectly to a magnetic flux piece which has a surface facing the workpiece and connecting the front ends with each other.
