The overcoat emulsion for protection a carbon spot or other image transfer medium against smudging is made from a polyethylene wax emulsion. In addition, a stilt such as wheat starch may be added to the emulsion to improve the pressure absorbing qualities of the overcoat. In addition, a surfactant may be added to the emulsion to improve the wettability characteristics of the emulsion when being applied to a substrate such as a paper ply of a mailer.

Mailer form and a compound for protecting an image transfer medium

The image transfer medium, such as a carbon spot or microcapsule type of medium is provided with a protective overcoat which precludes smudging of an insert ply within the mailer form due to the rubbing of the face of the mailer form. The overcoat serves to preclude or greatly reduce an image transfer under a transversely applied rubbing force while allowing transfer of an image under impact force.

The front ply of the mailer is provided with a cutout window and a transparent patch over the window. The patch is provided with a CB coating while the underlying area of the insert ply is provided with a CF coating for chemically reacting with the first coating in response to an impact force from a stylus on the patch. Imaged information on the insert ply can be viewed through the transparent patch while being protected by the patch.

The front and back plies of the continuous mailer assembly are secured together by a hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive. This adhesive secures the plies together in a fixed permanent relation. When the assembly is unfolded from a zig zag stack, 'tenting' is eliminated.
