A portable telemetry device includes a physiological component, a fall detector component, a radio, and a communication component. The physiological component is configured to receive, from at least one sensor, physiological data representative of a physiological condition of a patient. The fall detector component is configured to detect a fall of the portable telemetry device. The radio is configured to wirelessly send radio signals. The communication component is configured to transmit the physiological data and an indication of the fall to a monitoring system using the radio.

A medical monitoring device may include a gesture control sensor for detecting gesture commands from users. The medical monitoring device may enable gesture control when it receives an identifier from a tag and the identifier is authenticated. The tag may include an RFID tag and/or a barcode. The identifier may be authenticated locally and/or by a remote device communicatively coupled to the medical monitoring device (e.g., over a network). Once gesture control is enabled, gestures by the user may be identified by the medical monitoring device, an action corresponding to the gesture may be determined, and the action may be performed. The gesture control sensor may be disabled manually or automatically when predetermined criteria are satisfied to prevent the gesture control sensor from receiving inadvertent commands.

A patient monitor system synchronizes patient data acquired by a plurality of sensor modules. Patient data from the sensor modules are synchronized by transmitting, from a patient monitor host, a start message that each newly connected sensor module uses to determine when to begin transmitting patient data to the patient monitor host. At a predetermined count interval, the patient monitor host also broadcasts an incrementing sequence count value to each of the connected sensor modules. The sensor modules use the sequence count values and the start message to determine when the patient monitor host expects each sensor module to transmit data packets. Each data packet sent by the sensor modules includes a sequence count value that the patient monitor host uses to align the various waveforms for display.

A patient monitoring system may be configured to acquire data signals relating to various physiological parameters of a patient. For example, the patient monitoring system may be used to determine or record a patient's blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and/or other physiological parameters. Additionally, the patient monitoring system may be configured to selectively enter a transport mode, in which the touch screen and/or user inputs are locked or partially locked. The patient monitoring system may automatically enter a transport mode when the display unit is rotated to a landscape orientation.

A patient monitor is synchronized with a portable sensor module by detecting a first coupling of the portable sensor module to the patient monitor. In response to the first coupling, the portable sensor module and the patient monitor each store configuration settings and record patient data acquired through the portable sensor module. After the portable sensor module is decoupled from the patient monitor, the portable sensor module continues to store patient data and the configuration settings stored in the patient monitor and the portable sensor module are allowed to change relative to one another. Upon detecting a second coupling of the portable sensor module to the patient monitor, the portable sensor module and the patient monitor resynchronize with one another to remove any differences in the configuration settings and to provide copies of any patient data missing from either the portable sensor module and the patient monitor.

A patient monitoring system includes a patient monitor and a plurality of docking stations. Each docking station is associated with a set of patient monitor configurations. Interfacing the patient monitor with a particular docking station allows a user to select one or more of the set of patient monitor configurations associated with the particular docking station for use in the patient monitor.
