A wrench includes a fixed jaw formed on one end of a handle, a pivotal jaw pivotally secured to the handle and having one end for engaging with a fastener. The pivotal jaw has a middle cavity for receiving a spring-biased engaging member which may engage with the handle to force the pivotal jaw toward the fixed jaw. The fixed and the pivotal jaws each includes a flat engaging surface and a notch for alternatively engaging with the opposite flat surfaces and the opposite corners of the fastener and for allowing the handle to be rotated for only thirty degrees relative to the fastener.

A wrench includes a driving head having an opening and a chamber and a cavity for receiving a gear and a pawl and an actuator. The actuator is coupled to the pawl with a spring for moving the pawl to control the operating direction of the gear. A spring blade is received in the cavity of the driving head and includes a projection engaged with the actuator for positioning the actuator to the driving head. The driving head has one or more cusps for engaging with the spring blade and for preventing the spring blade from rotating relative to the driving head.

A wrench includes a driving cartridge having one end rotatably secured to a handle at a shaft and rotatable in a horizontal plane parallel to that of the handle. A pawl is slidably disposed between the driving cartridge and the handle and is selectively coupled to the driving cartridge for allowing the driving cartridge to be adjusted relative to the handle at any selected angular position. A barrel is rotatably disposed between the driving cartridge and the handle for receiving the pawl and coupled to the pawl for moving the pawl toward and away from the cartridge.

A wrench includes a handle having a head and a gear disposed in the head. A pawl is pivotally secured in the handle and has two ends selectively actuated to act onto the gear. A knob has a spring-biased projection for selectively actuating either of the ends of the pawl to engage with the gear. An indicator device may be used for indicating the active direction of the wrench by indicating the position of the knob. The pawl may be disposed outside of the gear or may be disposed in a cartridge that is rotatably received in an internal gear.

A ratchet wrench includes a head having a slot for receiving a pawl. A driving member and an actuator are rotatably engaged in the head. A spring is engaged in the actuator and includes an arm engaged in an oblong hole of the pawl for allowing the actuator to rotate and to move the pawl to either of the narrower ends of the slot. The driving member may be rotated by the head in one direction when the pawl is engaged in one of the narrower ends of the slot and may be rotated in a reverse direction when the pawl is engaged in the other narrower end.

A wrench for driving a fastener includes a fixed jaw formed on one end of a handle. A pivotal jaw is pivotally coupled to the handle at a pivot axle. A knob is slidably engaged on the handle. A resilient blade pivotally couples the knob to the pivotal jaw for allowing the knob to move the pivotal jaw toward the fixed jaw when the knob is moved toward the pivotal jaw. The handle includes a slot, the knob includes a projection extended inward of the slot for engaging with a spring which may bias the knob toward the pivotal jaw.

A retainer apparatus is used to releasably retain a socket wrench member on the plug of the driving head of a rotary lever. The retainer apparatus includes a connecting rod, a control rod and a sleeving ring. The connecting rod has an bore formed in an end surface thereof, in which the control rod is disposed. A retaining pin is passed through the position limiting hole of the connecting rod to interconnect the sleeving ring and the control rod, so that actuation of the sleeving ring can rotate the control rod relative to the connecting rod. The control rod has a circumferential extending retaining groove which is gradually deepened from a narrow end portion to a deep end portion. A retaining ball is positioned in the narrow end portion of the retaining groove and extends through a retaining hole of the connecting rod and into one of four retaining holes of the socket wrench member, so as to retain the socket wrench member on the connecting rod. When the sleeving ring is rotated an angle of 90 degrees so as to move the retaining ball to the deep end portion of the retaining groove, the socket wrench member can be removed from the connecting rod.
