The present invention relates to compositions for the oral and vaginal administration of human Lactobacilli and uses thereof for physiologic restoration of the vaginal flora, physiologic maintenance ofin pathologic deficiency to produce Lactobacilli, treatment of asymptomatic bacterial vaginosis and prevention of preterm delivery caused through bacterial vaginosis.

A compound body can be constructed, using secondary cell wall polymers of prokaryotic microorganisms as bonding agent to anchor a monomolecular lattice to a support, with or without functional groups attached to the lattice. The lattice may be comprised of lipid or crystalline cell surface layer proteins. The support is illustrated by a micro-filtration membrane, a cell surface ultra-filtration membrane (SUM), and a micelle, respectively.

Use of secondary cell wall polymer of procaryotic microorganisms

Disclosed are methods for the enzymatic synthesis of alpha-sialylated oligosaccharide glycosides. Specifically, in the disclosed methods, sialyltransferase is activated to transfer an analogue of sialic acid, employed as its CMP-nucleotide derivative, to an oligosaccharide glycoside. The analogue of sialic acid and the oligosaccharide employed in this method are selected to be compatible with the sialyltransferase employed.
