Some aspects of this disclosure provide methods and reagents for the detection of apolipoproteins in a sample, for example, a sample obtained from a human subject. Some aspects of this disclosure provide protocols and reagents for the quantification of lipoproteins and lipoprotein particle populations comprising specific combinations of non-integral apolipoproteins and integral apolipoproteins, which is useful, inter alia, for the detection of diseases such as cardiovascular disease as well as an assessment of the risk of an individual to develop a disease.

Quantification of lipoproteins

Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for lowering Apolipoprotein C-III (ApoC-III) in a subject in need thereof. Subjects in need of ApoC-III reduction include subjects with elevated ApoC-III levels, subjects with a condition associated with ApoC-III, subjects with diabetes, obese subjects and subjects with cardiovascular disease. Compositions to lower ApoC-III include compounds targeting Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) such as Mipomersen and other antisense compound targeting ApoB.

Presented herein are methods of diagnosing, assessing, and treating an individual at increased risk if developing coronary heart disease or cardiovascular event, based on the individual's level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol apoCIII (HDL-C apoCIII).
