The method includes presenting a set of connected graphical elements on a graphical user interface (GUI) representing a structure of the communication session and a trusted relationship between a first participant and a second participant in the communication session, establishing a bidirectional link between the first participant and the second participant, wherein the communication device exchanges trusted information between the first participant and the second participant, and displaying a depiction of the bidirectional link to at least one participant in the communication session. The method optionally includes negotiating a calendar event with the second participant via the bidirectional link based on the trusted information. Graphical elements associated with the first and second participants can depict one or more of presence, context, and persona information.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for presenting a contact manager associated with a communication session represented in a graphical user interface (GUI). The method includes grouping by context contacts associated with a user in the communication session, wherein the communication session is displayed as a set of connected graphical elements representing a structure of the communication session, presenting on the GUI a graphical representation of at least a part of the grouped contacts, receiving user input associated with one contact of the contacts and the communication session, and modifying the communication session based on information associated with the user input and the one contact. Grouping the contacts by context can include sorting the contacts as a cache, and grouping based on user preferences, user communications history, social networks, topic, project, and/or employer.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for suggesting and inserting automated assistants in a graphical user interface for managing communication sessions. A system for suggesting an automated assistant generates a first vector describing a current context of a current communication session, and generates a comparison of the first vector and a second vector associated with a past context of an automated assistant in a past communication session. Then, if the comparison exceeds a similarity threshold, the system suggests the automated assistant to at least one user in the current communication session. Optionally, the system can predictively insert the automated assistant in a communication session if the comparison exceeds a similarity threshold. The graphical user interface for managing communication sessions displays automated assistants in a same manner as human participants.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for presenting a selected media message to a first user. The method includes displaying via a graphical user interface (GUI) a notification associated with a request from a first user for a communication with a second user in the context of a graphical representation of a communication session including at least the second user, receiving a second user input identifying a selected action associated with the first user via the GUI, and performing the selected action relative to the first user. Methods, devices, and systems are provided that determine required communications features to be used in a communication session and provide participants of the communication session with an identification of the required communications features. When a communication device used by the participant does not include one of the required communications features, the user is provided access to those features, based on compatibility. When a communication device is found to be compatible, the communication device accesses the features by running communications applications having the required communications features.

A system configured to practice the method displays, on a first side portion of the user interface, a first set of user-configurable communication information. The system displays, a second side portion of the user interface, a second set of user-configurable communication information. The system displays, on a center portion of the user interface, a communication work space for managing communication sessions. In one embodiment including a touch sensitive display, this interface is used with a tablet device such that a natural position of user's thumbs are in an optimal position to interact efficiently with the user interface. The side portions can be user-configurable to display, for example, contacts, calendar events, tasks, memos, and so forth.

A communication manager establishes a call between two or more participants on two or more communication devices. The call can be an audio or video call. A call request is sent from one of the communication devices to conference an additional communication device to the call. For example, a participant in the call decides to conference an additional person to further discuss an idea. An information manager gets a roster of the participants. In addition to the call request, the roster of the participants is sent to the additional communication device. The additional communication device receives the call request and the roster. The roster is displayed to the user of the additional communication device. The user can then indicate to answer the call request. If answered, the additional communication device sends an indication that the call was answered and the additional communication device is conferenced into the call.
