The present disclosure relates to methods of making an article comprising PTFE, methods of making expanded articles comprising PTFE, articles comprising PTFE, and expanded articles comprising PTFE having improved mechanical and electrical performance and particularly reduced variability in mechanical, electrical and dimensional properties, particularly over long lengths.

Articles containing PTFE having improved dimensional stability particularly over long lengths, methods for making such articles, and cable/wire assemblies containing such articles

The present disclosure is directed to laser-markable insulation material and cable or wire assemblies containing such insulation material. In certain embodiments, the laser-markable insulation material can include a fluoropolymer and an inorganic laser-markable pigment. The pigment can have a mean crystal size in a range of about 0.4 microns to about 2 microns and/or a median particle size (d) in a range of about 0.45 microns to about 2 microns. The insulation material can exhibit improved initial and heat-aged contrast ratios without diminishing the ability of a cable or wire containing the insulation material to meet industry standards for electric-arc tracking and propagation resistance.

Laser-markable insulation material for wire or cable assemblies

A flexible composite with integral flights is provided and methods for making the same. The composite is made from, for example, silicone rubber, urethane rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene or other polymer. The composites are useful for making conveyor belts for use in high temperature food processing, and particularly for contact toasters. The conveyor belts are an improvement over the prior art in that they prevent slippage of the articles conveyed, may be manufactured at low cost, and are relatively easy to clean.

A coated fabric includes a reinforcement, a first coating disposed on the reinforcement, and a second coating disposed on the first coating. The first coating includes perfluoropolymer. The second coating includes perfluoropolymer and a silicone polymer in an amount in a range of 2 wt % to 30 wt %.

Modified perfluoropolymer sheet material and methods for making same

A HVAC system of a motor vehicle includes a film having openings defined therein and moveable between open and closed positions. The film regulates airflow by opening and closing apertures defined in a housing of the HVAC system. The film is disposed in a film valve assembly containing first and second rollers that wind and unwind the film. The film includes a substrate that includes a fiber selected from the group of polyester-based fibers, glass-based fibers, and combinations thereof. An elastomeric layer is disposed on the substrate layer. The substrate also includes a silicone layer disposed on the elastomeric layer for minimizing noise created as the film moves between the open and closed positions.

A method is provided for forming a contact toaster having a flexible belt. The method includes forming a flexible belt by applying at least one of a silicone rubber, a urethane rubber, and a fluoropolymer to a fabric reinforcement material having a first face and a second face, and forming ribs on the first face of the fabric reinforcement material. The ribs are formed from at least one of a silicone rubber, urethane rubber, and fluoropolymer. The flexible belt is attached to the contact toaster such that the ribs on the first face are configured to impart lateral force to objects to be toasted that are carried by the flexible belt. The flexible belt is attached such that it passes through a heating zone of the contact toaster.

Method for forming belts with integral flights for use in high-temperature food processing equipment

A multilayer composite has a generally adhesion resistant, protective layer and an adjacent second polymeric film. The composition of the protective layer includes a fluoropolymer and the second polymeric film is a polymer free of fluoropolymer. The size of the protective layer facing the second polymeric layer is rendered bondable to the non-fluoropolymer of the second polymeric layer prior to assembling the layers in the composite. The composite is well adapted to being produced in a vertical coating tower. The tower utilizes a carrier web onto which the fluoropolymer layer and second polymeric layer are deposited from respective casting films. Mirror image composites can be formed simultaneously on opposite sides of the carrier web.

A double-faced PTFE-silicone rubber reinforced composite with curling tendency controlled is achieved by coating one side of a balanced PTFE/glass composite with liquid silicone rubber. Each face of the composite can perform independent functions in a single application, thereby optimizing performance.

A flexible composite with integral flights is provided and methods for making the same. The composite is made from, for example, silicone rubber, urethane rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene or other polymer. Flexible composites with integral flights for use in high-temperature food processing equipment and methods for producing the same

A novel composite comprises a substrate having a coating matrix including an initial layer of a perfluoropolymer and an overcoat comprising a fluoroelastomer, a fluoroplastic, a fluoroelastomer/fluoroplastic blend, or a combination thereof. The perfluoropolymer in the initial layer may be a perfluoroplastic, a perfluoroelastomer, or blends thereof. In a separate embodiment, the novel composite includes a substrate coated solely with one or more layers of perfluoroelastomer alone or as a blend with a perfluoroplastic. Where the substrate is not susceptible to hydrogen fluoride corrosion, the composite may include solely one or more layers of a blend of a fluoroelastomer and a hydrogen-containing perfluoroplastic. Cross-linking accelerators may be used to cross-link one or more of the resins contained in the coating layers. Each composite may be top-coated with a layer or layers of a fluoroplastic, fluoroelastomer, and/or a blend thereof. The composite is flexible, exhibits good matrix cohesion and possesses substantial adhesion of the matrix to the material acting as the reinforcement or substrate. A method for making such a composite comprises the unique deployment of a perfluoropolymer directly onto the substrate in a relatively small amount sufficient to protect the substrate from chemical corrosion without impairing flexibility, followed by the application of the overcoat layer.

Reinforced fluoropolymer composite

A fluoroplastic resin dispersion is modified by the addition of a fluoroelastomer latex to yield a fluid coating or casting composition for forming films. The fluoroplastic resin dispersion, preferably an aqueous dispersion of a perfluoroplastic, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), is modified by blending with a fluoroelastomer composition, preferably a latex, such that the fluoroplastic comprises up to about 95%, preferably up to about 90%, by weight of the invention composition. The fluoroelastomer component comprises at least about 5% by weight of the blend. The fluid composition and film according to the invention may preferably comprise from about 10-95% by weight fluoroplastic and from about 5-90% fluoroelastomer.
