A method and apparatus provides for improved imaging of objects underwater. The method and apparatus are particularly useful in a degraded underwater visual environment. The method and apparatus are also useful in undersea operations in which enhanced visualization at close range is desirable. Exemplary operations include diver assist, ship hull inspections, underwater robotic operations (e.g. sample collection, mine neutralization), etc.

Underwater imaging system

Embodiments relate to compressive line sensing imaging. Initially, a codebook is configured with a pattern sequence for a series of illumination patterns. Each light element in an individually addressable laser diode array (IALDA) is independently controlled to project the series of illumination patterns onto a target. Next, measurements of the target are acquired based on the series of illumination patterns. The codebook is then used to decode the measurements to create an image of the target.

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a circuit for receiving a request to initiate a first multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) communication session and a second MIMO communication session, and configuring a first antenna configuration and a second antenna configuration to enable the first MIMO communication session and the second MIMO communication session. The first MIMO communication session shares spectrum from the first antenna configuration and the second antenna configuration, and the second MIMO communication session utilizes spectrum from the second antenna configuration that differs from the shared spectrum. Antenna structures and methods thereof that have disparate operating frequency ranges

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a circuit for initiating a first multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) communication session with a primary base station, and initiating a second MIMO communication session with a first secondary base station of a plurality of secondary base stations without terminating the first MIMO communication session with the primary base station. The primary base station can include a primary antenna system having a first communication range, while each of the plurality of secondary base stations can include a secondary antenna system having a second communication range that is a subset of the first communication range of the primary antenna system. The plurality of secondary base stations can correspond to a plurality of small cell sites distributed within the first communication range of the primary base station. Method and apparatus for transitioning between cell sites

A method is provided introducing a phase offset between signals applied to antenna ports of an antenna having multiple antenna elements, such that a first signal applied to one of the antenna ports operatively coupled to one of the antenna elements has a different phase than a second signal applied to another one of antenna ports operatively coupled to another one of the antenna elements to obtain an antenna pattern control. A reduced power is used that is lower than the power used in a non-pattern control operation of the antenna such that a wireless link performance criteria is met with equipment at a far-field point using the reduced power compared to the non-pattern control operation, thereby reducing near field radiation.

Methods for reducing near-field radiation and specific absorption rate (SAR) values in communications devices

One or more embodiments are directed to a multimode antenna structure for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals in a communications device. The communications device includes circuitry for processing signals communicated to and from the antenna structure. The antenna structure is configured for optimal operation in a given frequency range. The antenna structure includes a plurality of antenna ports operatively coupled to the circuitry, and a plurality of antenna elements, each operatively coupled to a different one of the antenna ports. Each of the plurality of antenna elements is configured to have an electrical length selected to provide optimal operation within the given frequency range. The antenna structure also includes one or more connecting elements electrically connecting the antenna elements such that electrical currents on one antenna element flow to a connected neighboring antenna element and generally bypass the antenna port coupled to the neighboring antenna element. The electrical currents flowing through the one antenna element and the neighboring antenna element are generally equal in magnitude, such that an antenna mode excited by one antenna port is generally electrically isolated from a mode excited by another antenna port at a given desired signal frequency range without the use of a decoupling network connected to the antenna ports, and the antenna structure generates diverse antenna patterns.

A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a circuit for determining a magnitude difference between a first signal supplied to an antenna and a second signal radiated by the antenna, determining a phase difference between the first signal supplied to the antenna and the second signal radiated by the antenna, measuring a change in reactance of an antenna, detecting an offset in an operating frequency of the antenna based on one of the magnitude difference, the phase difference, the change in reactance, or any combination thereof, and adjusting a resonant frequency of the antenna to mitigate the offset in the operating frequency of the antenna. A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, a circuit for receiving bandwidth utilization information associated with each of a plurality of communication nodes, and initiating communications with a communication node selected from the plurality of communication nodes according to a comparison of the bandwidth utilization information and a measure of quality of a communication link of each of the plurality of communication nodes. The first slot can define a shape of a trade dress design in the conductive cover. The circuit can be communicatively coupled to first edges of the first slot to define a first port.
