In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a communication device is provided, comprising: a communication unit configured to execute a time-of-flight ranging session with an external communication counterpart; a clock offset measurement unit configured to measure a frequency offset of a device clock, wherein said device clock is configured to be used by the communication unit when said ranging session is executed; a processing unit configured to determine whether the measured frequency offset of the device clock has a predefined correlation with a frequency offset of a counterpart clock, wherein said counterpart clock is configured to be used by the external communication counterpart when said ranging session is executed. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating a communication device is conceived. In accordance with a third aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding computer program is provided.

There is described a system and method of committing a transaction within a UWB network comprising a plurality of anchors, the UWB network covering a predetermined area having at least one trigger area, the method comprising waking up a mobile device upon entering the predetermined area, receiving initial network data at the mobile device, verifying that the UWB network is genuine based on the initial network data, initiating communication between the mobile device and an anchor, including partial mutual authentication, generating a session key for secure communication between the mobile device and the UWB network, tracking the location of the mobile device within the predetermined area based on secure communication between the mobile device and one or more anchors within the UWB network using the session key, and committing the transaction, if the location of the mobile device is within the at least one trigger area.

Methods and systems for committing transactions utilizing RF ranging while protecting user privacy

An apparatus including a transmitter including a pulsed Radio Frequency (RF) source coupled to an antenna. A receiver includes an amplifier coupled to the antenna. A controller is configured to adjust one or more durations of a ranging cycle of the apparatus, wherein the ranging cycle includes a first duration of a gated mode and a second duration of a non-gated mode. The gated mode blinds the amplifier during a transmission of the transmitter. The non-gated mode reduces a gain of the amplifier during the transmission.

Impulse radar using variable pulse repetition frequency

A method is described for transmitting a payload between a mobile device and a plurality of anchor devices via a ranging-capable physical layer, in particular an ultra-wide band (UWB), communication. The method comprises: i) transmitting, by the mobile device, a first message to a first anchor device and to a second anchor device, wherein the first message comprises a synchronization protocol, ii) establishing, upon receiving the first message, a first time slot for the first anchor device and a second time slot for the second anchor device based on the synchronization protocol, iii) transmitting, by the mobile device, a second message to the first anchor device and/or to the second anchor device, wherein the second message comprises a mobile device payload, iv) transmitting, upon receiving the second message by the first anchor device, a third message to the mobile device during the first time slot by the first anchor device, wherein the third message comprises a target device payload, and/or v) transmitting, upon receiving the second message by the second anchor device, the third message to the mobile device during the second time slot by the second anchor device.
