An implantable artificial capsule and a method of implantation are provided. The implantable artificial capsule has a ring with a central opening to accommodate an intraocular lens and at least three haptic arms extending substantially orthogonal from the outer surface of the ring. Each arm has transcleral anchors for sutureless scleral fixation. Upon implantation of the implantable artificial capsule the arms are externalized trans-sclerally and atraumatically. The arms sit subconjunctivally. The implantable artificial capsule does not have any sutures for fixation and is suturelessly implanted in an eye, which is a major advantage as it significantly reduces complications during surgery and recovery.

Intraocular artificial lens capsule

A surgical method of cataract fragmentation and extraction via microbubble cavitation is described. In particular, gas-filled microbubbles are injected into a lens capsule of a subject's eye, and cavitation of the microbubbles is activated by applied ultrasound energy. The ultrasound energy can be applied from an external device. The cavitation fragments cataract tissues without damaging other tissue, such as the lens capsule. Fragmented lens material is then aspirated from the lens capsule. The method can be used alone or in conjunction with other methods, such as phacoemulsification.

Method for eye lens removal using cavitating microbubbles

A device for irradiating ocular tissue, including a source of electromagnetic radiation; a beacon scattering the electromagnetic radiation transmitted through an opacity in ocular tissue so as to form scattered electromagnetic radiation; a modulator transmitting output electromagnetic radiation having a field determined from a recording of the scattered electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the opacity, so that the output electromagnetic radiation is transmitted through the opacity to the beacon. The device can be used to treat amblyopia or correct optical aberrations in corneal or lens tissue.

Focusing light through cataractous lenses

A position sensing system comprises a position sensor having an accelerometer and a gyroscope, an alarm, and a controller configured to receive data from the position sensor and activate the alarm according to alarm management instructions stored in a memory. In some embodiments, the alarm instructions include a snooze option to allow the user/patient to temporarily deactivate the alarm. The controller is communicably linked to a remote display device configured to display the orientation of the user's body part.

Head positioner for retinal surgery patients

A position sensing apparatus includes a position sensor, a voltage/current detector, and an alarm. The position sensor is coupled to the body part and includes a capsule, and first and second electrodes. The capsule has an interior volume configured to contain a liquid with a first density, and a contact member having a second density different from the first density. The first and second electrodes are fixed to the capsule to define a sensor meridian that is coupled to a tilt angle of the body part, with each electrode having a distal portion in the interior volume of the capsule, and the distal portions being configured to form a circuit with the liquid or the contact member. The voltage/current detector is configured to detect a change in a state of the circuit, and the alarm is configured to respond to the voltage/current detector.
