A method to store objects in a memory cache is disclosed. A request is received from an application to store an object in a memory cache associated with the application. The object is stored in a cache region of the memory cache based on an identification that the object has no potential for storage in a shared memory cache and a determination that the cache region is associated with a storage policy that specifies that objects to be stored in the cache region are to be stored in a local memory cache and that a garbage collector is not to remove objects stored in the cache region from the local memory cache.

A system and method are described for performing data processing using shared memory. In one embodiment, a request to perform a transaction is received at a memory. The memory includes a shared memory to provide a common access to a plurality of components including a plurality of work processes and a plurality of worker nodes. The request is then cached at the memory and later assigned to an available work process for performance.

The system information is stored in a memory. A setting of an abstract configuration for the system is resolved, with the resolution of the setting being based at least in part on the system information.

Dynamic adaptation of a configuration to a system environment

A cluster of architecture having a star topology with the central services node at its center. Application server instances are organized in a star topology with the central services node at its center. The central services node may include services such as a messaging server for interinstance cluster communications. A locking server may also be provided to provide cluster wide locking to facilitate changes and updates within the cluster. A database may also be shared by all instances in the cluster, thereby reducing the need for data replication. In one embodiment, the message server has no persistent state. In such an embodiment, if the message server fails, it can merely be restarted without any state recovery requirement.

Cluster architecture having a star topology with centralized services

A method is described that involves entering a notification of a request into a queue that supplies request notifications to a first worker node amongst a plurality of worker nodes. The first worker node is targeted to process the request. In response to the first worker node failing before the notification could be serviced from the first queue, the notification is moved from the first queue to a second queue that supplies request notifications to a second worker node amongst the plurality of worker nodes. After servicing the notification from the second queue, the request is transferred to the second worker node. A response to the request is then generated with the second worker node.

Failover protection from a failed worker node in a shared memory system

A method to associate a storage policy with a cache region is disclosed. In this method, a cache region associated with an application is created. The application runs on virtual machines, and where a first virtual machine has a local memory cache that is private to the first virtual machine. The first virtual machine additionally has a shared memory cache that is shared by the first virtual machine and a second virtual machine. Additionally, the cache region is associated with a storage policy. Here, the storage policy specifies that a first copy of an object to be stored in the cache region is to be stored in the local memory cache and that a second copy of the object to be stored in the cache region is to be stored in the shared memory cache.

A system and method are provided for integrating configuration templates. Usage-based configuration templates are created. The configuration templates are integrated into a configuration structure by assigning system instances to the configuration templates based on the usage of each of the system instances. The system instances are associated with one or more systems coupled with the configuration structure.

Template integration

A system and method for monitoring internal operation of a virtual machine ('VM'). The VM is operated to interpret and execute a program. During operation of the VM, status information regarding internal operation of the VM is stored to an internal memory buffer. The status information is subsequently extracted from the internal memory buffer during operation of the VM to monitor internal operation of the VM from a vantage point external to the VM.

A cluster manager application program library includes an event handler to communicate an event from an application server instance to which the library is linked to a message server in a cluster of application server instances.
