An electrochemical battery is disclosed. The electrochemical battery has an electrode plate comprising a frame and a generally flat grid connected to the frame, the frame comprising at least a top frame member having a contact lug, wherein the grid comprises a plurality of grid wires and a plurality of window-like open areas between the grid wires, further comprising an active mass within the open areas and/or on the grid wires, wherein the electrode plate comprises on one outer surface or on both opposing outer surfaces of the active mass a pattern of grooves, wherein the grooves extend diagonally from a position closer to the top frame member to a position further away from the top frame member. A method for producing an electrode plate is also disclosed.

The invention relates to performance improvements in lead accumulators and lead-acid batteries by admixing so-called expanders or spreading materials to the active negative materials. Succinates are proposed as a new synthetic and consequently chemically clearly defined spreading means that can be used in place of lignin sulphonates, particularly iminodisuccinates or succinyl groups or oligomers containing iminosuccinyl groups or polymer compounds, individually or in any mixtures.

The invention relates to a method for converting a separator processing machine for processing separators for a lead accumulator, comprising the steps of ending a supply of a first separator having a first separator width to the separator processing machine and supplying a second separator having a second separator width that differs from the first separator width to the separator processing machine. According to the invention, the separators comprise a base film body extending along a center line and a plurality of primary ribs, which are raised above the base film body along the center line by a primary rib height and are disposed mirror-symmetrically with respect to the center line, wherein the primary ribs of the second separator with respect to the center line are disposed in the same locations as the primary ribs of the first separator.
