A communication system, method, and components are described. Specifically, a communication system having one or more Back-to-Back User Agents (B2BUAs) therein is described. The communication system also includes an RFC 4579 conference focus. Mechanisms are described which enable User Agents (UAs) to subscribe to conference state events and create ad-hoc conferences even though the conference focus is operating in a B2BUA environment.

A communication system, method, and components are described. Specifically, a communication system having the ability to facilitate call transfer across a Session Border Controller (SBC) is provided. The transfer is facilitated by an intelligent mapping process performed at the SBC on one or more messages transmitted during a call transfer.

A proxy server causes an authentication authority to authenticate a client in response to a first Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) request of the client on a connection. It does not cause the client to be authenticated in response subsequent requests on the connection as long as the underlying connection is not broken, the subsequent requests are on behalf of the same client, the client has not been removed from the system, the client's password has not changed, a 'safety net' timer has not expired, or any other policy that the server chooses to enforce. This eliminates the overhead of constant re-authentication in response to each SIP request.

An apparatus and method for improving performance in high-availability systems are disclosed. In accordance with the illustrative embodiment, pages of memory of a primary system that are to be shadowed are initially copied to a backup system's memory, as well as to a cache in the primary system. A duplication manager process maintains the cache in an intelligent manner that significantly reduces the overhead required to keep the backup system in sync with the primary system, as well as the cache size needed to achieve a given level of performance. Advantageously, the duplication manager is executed on a different processor core than the application process executing transactions, further improving performance.

Methods, devices, and systems for creating and using a trusted host list for Transport Layer Security (TLS) sessions are provided. The proposed solutions described herein provide a mechanism of specifying authorization policy for TLS sessions where such authorization was traditionally implied by the possession of a certificate issued by a mutually trusted third party. The proposed solutions also provide for wildcard use and regular expression matching to simplify administration of the trusted host list.

More specifically, entities of a call can be marked as internal/external based employing an assessment algorithm to determine whether the calling endpoint is an internal or external endpoint and/or whether a user of the calling or answering endpoint is an internal or external user. Once this determination is made, the call can be marked accordingly such that the appropriate features can be invoked.

By detecting at the beginning point of the loop, the illustrative embodiment has the advantage of de-allocating call resources sooner than some techniques in the prior art. This enables the call resources to be reused faster for subsequent incoming and outgoing calls. Faster reuse is advantageous because it can lower the call blocking characteristic, which is related to the probability of a new call not being set up due to lack of communication channel resources.
