An end brush is disclosed. In an illustrative implementation, a plurality of bristles are each fastened at a fixed end to a body. The bristles include a plurality of inner bristles proximal to a rotational axis of the body, and a plurality of outer bristles distal to the rotational axis. The inner bristles have a substantially uniform length. The outer bristles are cut at lengths shorter than the inner bristle length, and at an angle to the rotational axis.

A brush for cleaning debris from the inner surface of a well bore casing. The brush includes an inner base ring adapted to fit on a shaft, and at least one bristle assembly engaged around the circumference of the base ring. The brush features wire bristles extending radially from its circumference forming a brushing surface, and at least one channel formed in the brushing surface to provide for the evacuation of loosened debris.

A flap disc includes a backing disc having an inner radial portion and abrasive flaps secured to an outer radial portion of the backing disc in an overlapping manner. First and second metal reinforcement rings include a body contacting one of front and rear surfaces of the backing disc adjacent a central opening. A threaded nut includes a body having an outer surface defining a shoulder and a retainer connected to the body. The shoulder contacts the second ring adjacent the central opening of the backing disc. The retainer is rolled outwardly to contact the first ring such that the nut and the rings are secured to the backing disc.

Rotary finishing disc

A flap disc for surface finishing a V-shaped work piece. The disc includes a backing plate and a plurality of abrasive flaps that are mounted on first and second sides of the backing plate. The abrasive flaps are radially disposed on the backing plate, each abrasive flap having an outer surface and an inner surface. A portion of the inner surface is adhesively attached to the backing plate. A second portion of the inner surface is disposed on the outer surface of an adjacent abrasive flap in an overlapping fashion so as to position the outer surface of the abrasive flap at an angle to the backing plate. The outer surfaces of the abrasive flaps on the first and second sides of the backing plate face in the same circumferential direction and taper radially toward one another to define a substantially V-shaped finishing surface.

V-shaped flap disc abrasive tool

A drive system for engaging a small diameter abrasive disc with a power tool. The drive system includes an arbor which is adapted to engage the power tool. The arbor includes a shaft portion formed on one end and external threads formed on the other end. The external threads have a first pitch. The drive system also includes an abrasive disc backing plate which has a mount extending outward from the backing plate on one side of the backing plate. The mount has internal threads formed on it for threadingly engaging the threads formed on the arbor. The engagement of the threads in the mount with the threads on the arbor providing a rigid attachment for facilitating rotation of the disc by the power tool when the arbor is engaged with the power tool. The threads on the mount having a second pitch which is different from the first pitch. The difference in pitch locking the backing plate into engagement with the arbor. A stop is located between the shaft portion and the external threads which limits the extent of engagement between the threads in the mount and the threads on the arbor by contact between the mount and the stop. The location of the stop on the arbor is selected to permit complete engagement of the arbor with the disc after the disc is turned between about 1/4 and about 11/2 turns. The stop also configured to align the backing plate perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the arbor.

Drive system for small diameter abrasive discs

A flap disc for use with a rotary surface finishing tool, the flap disc includes a backing plate which attaches to and is rotated by the finishing tool. The backing plate has a mounting flange on which a plurality of abrasive flaps are radially disposed. The abrasive flaps are each adhesively attached to the mounting flange and positioned so as to overlap an adjacent flap. Each abrasive flap has a finishing layer which comprises abrasive particles intermixed in a resin binder. Attached to the finishing layer is a substrate which includes a resin binder. In one embodiment of the invention, the substrate is made from fiber material onto which the abrasive particle/resin mixture is adhesively attached. Alternately, the substrate may comprise a non-woven fibrous material onto which the abrasive particle/resin mixture is adhesively bonded. The mounting flange may comprise a plurality of fiberglass plies intermixed in a resin matrix. Abrasive particles are, preferably, incorporated into the resin matrix so that if the abrasive flaps are completely torn away, the abrasive particles in the mounting flange will continue to sand the surface of the work piece.

Flap disc abrasive tool

A method is disclosed for making a brushing tool having a hub and a plurality of bristles extending from the hub. A mold defines a cavity which is divided into a closable mold cavity and a bristle cavity. At least one bristle locating pin is disposed within the bristle cavity. At least one bundle of bristles is inserted into the bristle cavity adjacent to the at least one bristle locating pin so that one end of the bristles is disposed within the mold cavity. The mold cavity is then closed so that the ends of the bristles within the mold cavity are generally clamped together near the interface of the mold cavity and the bristle cavity. A thixotropic material in liquid form is injected into the mold cavity so that a portion of each bristle disposed within the mold cavity is surrounded by the thixotropic material. When the thixotropic material hardens, the portion of each bristle on the mold cavity becomes embedded in the hardened material, the hardened material thereby forming the hub of the brushing tool. In a preferred embodiment, the method is applied to a rotary brushing tool having a central hub and a plurality of bristles extending from the hub.

Method and apparatus for making a brushing tool

An industrial cup-shaped brush in which both inward and outward pivotal movements of the wire bristles caused by scrubbing or rotary motions is effectively resisted by providing elongated supports on the knot plate for the wire bristles and anchoring the bristles to the elongated supports by elongated loops of generally complementary shape to the elongated supports.
