An electric fan has a drive motor having a fan rotor, an apparatus for generating a rotation speed signal (n_i), an apparatus for generating a power level signal (P_i) that represents power consumed; a first regulator (n_RGL) for regulating the rotation speed signal (n_i) to a predefined target value (n_s); a second regulator (P_RGL) for regulating the power level signal (P_i) to a predefined power level signal target value (P_s) that corresponds to a predefined minimum consumed power level (P_min), where the first regulator (n_RGL) and the second regulator (P_RGL) apply at least one control output signal (SW) to the drive motor and interact in such a way that, during operation, the at least one control value (SW) in a first state is determined by the first regulator (n_RGL), and in a second state is determined by the second regulator (n_RGL).

Rotation-speed-controlled fan with control of the power consumption of the electric motor

An electronically commutated motor (ECM) has a rotor () and a stator, associated with which is a winding arrangement () to which electrical current (i) is applied to drive the motor (), a computer (), and a PWM generator () associated therewith. The motor () is designed for operation in a parameter range that encompasses at least one variable parameter, e.g. operating voltage or ambient temperature, that can have different values. The computer () is configured to operate by carrying out these steps: After the motor () is switched on and before normal startup begins, during an initial time phase (T), current (i) delivered to the stator winding arrangement () is switched off and on using a pulse duty factor (pwm) derived from said variable parameter, in order to produce startup of the motor (); subsequent to phase (T), when the rotor () is rotating, normal startup is performed.

Electronically commutated motor

An electronically commutated motor () has a rotor () and a rotor position sensor (), which sensor, during operation, furnishes a rotational position signal (). A stator interacts with the rotor (). The stator has a stator winding strand () in an H bridge (), and a control apparatus () which, during operation, performs the steps of: (A) controlling the H bridge () so that current pulses (+i, &#x2212;i) flow through the stator winding strand (), in alternate directions, each pulse starting at a first point in time (t); (B) at the beginning of each commutation, starting from a second point in time (t), operating in short circuit the winding strand (), in order to cause a decreasing loop current (I*) through the stator winding strand (), which loop current (I*) reaches zero at a third point in time (t); and (C) stepwise modifying, toward a minimum, the time interval (TCC) between the first and third points in time (t, t).

An electronically commutated motor has a permanent-magnet rotor () having: at least two rotor poles (); at least one phase (); a power stage (); and a rotor position sensor (). Associated therewith is a control circuit implemented to carry out the following steps in order to even out the motor current (): A) after a change of the rotor position signal (), referred to as a first pole change, a first value (I_MEAS(HCnt&#x2212;1)) of the current through the at least one phase () is ascertained; B) after a predetermined time span (T_Default+T_Offset(HCnt&#x2212;1)), a new commutation is carried out; C) after a change of the rotor position signal (), referred to as a second pole change, a second value for the motor current (I_MEAS(HCnt)) is ascertained; D) as a function of the difference between the first value (I_MEAS(HCnt&#x2212;1)) and second value (I_MEAS(HCnt)), the value for the predetermined time span is modified.

Method and arrangement for commutating an electronically commutated motor

An improved method of commutating an electronically commutated DC motor shuts off application of power between the end of one current pulse and the beginning of the subsequent current pulse. Based upon the instantaneous rotation speed, one calculates at what instant to shut off the power. During the power interruption, the disconnected winding is operated in short-circuit mode using two MOSFET transistors, and the decay of the current is monitored. When the current reaches a predetermined reduced value, the terminals of the winding are switched to a high-resistance state, until the subsequent current pulse is started. This has the advantage that less reactive power occurs during operation, and one need not install as bulky a storage capacitor as the capacitors used heretofore.

Method for commutating an electronically commutated DC motor, and motor for carrying out said method

An electronically commutated motor has a rotor (), a stator having a stator winding arrangement (), and a full bridge circuit () for controlling the current (i, i) in the stator winding arrangement (); in the full bridge circuit (), first semiconductor switches () are connected to a first DC supply lead () and second semiconductor switches () to the other DC supply lead (), said second switches being bidirectionally conductive of current in the switched-on state. The motor has an arrangement () for opening the first semiconductor switches () and for closing the second semiconductor switches () during a predetermined operating state. An arrangement () is provided for monitoring the direction of the current (i, i) which flows in the second semiconductor switches () when the latter are conductive during the predetermined operating state.

A method of limiting current in a DC motor acts on a full bridge circuit () through which the stator winding arrangement () of that motor is supplied with current. Upon response of the current limiter, energy supply to the stator winding arrangement () from the DC power network is interrupted. The stator winding arrangement is then operated substantially in short circuit via semiconductor switches of the full bridge circuit, and the decaying current flowing in that context serves substantially to continue driving the motor. When that current has reached a lower value, energy supply from the DC power network to the motor is once again activated. The effective value of the current flowing to the motor is preferably reduced when the current limiter responds. The time period during which that current flows, in the form of current blocks, is then increased in compensatory fashion.
