A method () for protecting a data transport block against memory errors and transmission errors includes: attaching () a first redundancy section to the data transport block for protecting the data transport block against memory errors and providing the data transport block in a memory buffer; attaching () a second redundancy section to the data transport block read from the memory buffer for protecting the data transport block against transmission errors and providing the data transport block for transmission; and invalidating () the second redundancy section if an evaluation of the first redundancy section of the data transport block read from the memory buffer indicates a memory error.

Method and device for protecting a data transport block against memory errors and transmission errors

A technique of processing spectral emission information in a communication device () having a first radio interface () and a second radio interface () is presented. The spectral emission information is indicative of an emission level associated with the first radio interface (). A method implementation of the technique comprises the following steps performed for the first radio interface (). First, a transmission via the first radio interface () is performed. From the second radio interface () a measurement report for the transmission is received in a next step. The spectral emission information is adapted based on the measurement report.

Technique for processing spectral emission information in a communication device with multiple radio interfaces

A technique for coordinating transmission and reception activities of two or more radio interfaces () integrated in a communication device () is described. A priority setting is associated with information intended for transmission via the first radio interface (). In a method implementation of the technique, the following steps are performed for the first radio interface (). First, a signal indicative of an upcoming reception via the second radio interface () is received. Then, for an ongoing or scheduled transmission of information via the first radio interface (), the priority setting associated with the information is determined. In a next step a decision regarding an interruption or a delay of the transmission is performed depending on the priority setting associated with the information.

Technique for coordinating transmission and reception activities in a communication device with multiple radio interfaces

Primary and secondary apparatuses avoid concurrent performance of activities, wherein the secondary apparatus has a best and possibly different worst case minimum amounts of time required to perform activity. The primary apparatus ascertains a first future moment when it will become inactive and ascertains whether its upcoming period of inactivity will not be less than the secondary apparatus' best case minimum amount of time required to perform activity. If not, the primary apparatus asserts, in advance of the first future moment, an inactivity indicator signal indicating its upcoming inactivity. The interval between assertion of the inactivity indicator signal and the first future moment is greater than or equal to a difference between the secondary apparatus' worst and best case minimum amounts of time required to perform activity.

Achieving best effort performance with interfering communications system equipment

Wireless communication systems according to 3rd Generation standards allow for large flexibility in payload transmission. To signal the specific combination of transport block sizes multiplexed into one composite transport channel, a transport format combination indicator is transmitted in addition to the encoded payload data. The correct decoding of this transport format combination indicator codeword information is crucial to retrieve the correct number and size of transport blocks from the incoming data stream in the receiver, which can be both, the user equipment or the base station. The decoding apparatus () of the invention allows an in-time processing of the incoming data, while the decoding performance for the next codeword information is increased. Therefore, a codeword decision unit () determines a first codeword decision on the basis of a first codeword information received. This first codeword decision is usable for the processing of the first payload data. Then, the codeword decision unit () decides and outputs a second codeword decision on the basis of the first codeword information and the second codeword information. This second codeword decision has an improved reliability.

TFCI decoding apparatus and method

Due to emerging cellular standards, such as UMTS, TDMA and WLAN, there is more and more need for so-called multi-mode mobile phones, i.e. phones which support not only one air interface but at least two. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a simplified synchronization of a plurality of time base units in a receiving station, such as a multi-mode mobile phone, is provided, in which the plurality of time base units is synchronized by performing a calibration of one first time base unit only and then using the calibration for synchronizing the other time base units with the calibrated first time base unit. Since the synchronization of the various time base units can be performed by software, the number of hardware components for synchronization may be significantly reduced.

Synchronization of time base units

Stations like mobile terminals, bases stations and network nodes comprising rake receivers with fingers require relatively many calculations to be performed for despreading a symbol. By replacing despreading multipliers, integrators and dumpers in the fingers by Hadamard transformers (), chips of several symbols with orthogonal channelization codes can be despreaded simultaneously, and the station and the rake receiver have become more efficient. The despreading section (of the finger () comprises the Hadamard transformer () and a serial-to-parallel converter () comprising downsamplers (-). The station is a high-speed downlink packet access station (HSDPA) in a universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS), with a number of de-channelization codes used being at least ten percent of a despreading factor used. For example, the despreading factor used is equal to sixteen, with the maximum possible number of de-channelization codes used being equal to five, ten or fifteen, depending on the capability class of the station.
