A tamper-resistant keypad is described. The keypad includes a keycap for actuation by a user. An actuator includes a first end that is coupled to the keycap. A frame having an aperture is adapted to receive the actuator such that the second end of the actuator is captured by the frame. The actuator is prevented from being removed from the frame.

A scanning assembly is disclosed. The scanning assembly comprises a mobile electronic device comprising an optical sensor, the mobile electronic device adapted to perform a scanning operation, and a trigger assembly. The trigger assembly comprises a handle member adapted to be releasably coupled to the mobile electronic device, the handle member comprising a light source, and a switch assembly adapted to receive input from an operator of the trigger assembly, wherein the light source is adapted to emit a light signal in response to manipulation of the switch assembly, and wherein the mobile electronic device is adapted to perform the scanning operation in response to receiving the light signal with the optical sensor.

Systems and methodologies are provided for fabrication of a self contained key pad module having a top cover and a bottom cover. The top cover and the bottom cover encapsulate and/or sandwich a stack of keypad components via an over mold procedure that is performed around the stack. The packed stack between the top cover and the bottom cover can include a flex member, an electro luminous panel, and a silicone membrane with a plurality of keys thereupon.

A sealed, solderless I/O connector for allowing the connection of cables or desk accessories to a mobile communication device while providing a weather tight seal allowing the use of the mobile communication device outdoors. The sealed, solderless I/O connector provides for greater tolerance of mechanical stress due to vibration or dropping because the contact points between the connector and the printed circuit board accomplished with a 'U' shaped spring contact. The sealed, solderless I/O connector also provides a locking mechanism to prevent unintended detachment of the cable or desk accessory.

A bar-code reader includes a housing, a window affixed to the housing and separating an internal environment from an external environment, and an anti-fog coating on the window within an optical path of the bar-code reader. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the anti-fog coating is a hydrophilic layer; in another embodiment, it is a hydrophobic layer. The anti-fog coating may be used internally, externally, or both, and may be applied to any number of components within the optical path.

Systems and methods for securing a battery within a battery compartment are provided. The battery is coupled to at least one latch such that the latch is slidably engageable with a latch receiving undercut in the battery compartment. The latch slides into engagement with the undercut after electrical contacts on the battery have connected with electrical contacts in the battery compartment. The secure latch mechanism facilitates maintaining a constant force between the electrical contacts while mitigating contact chatter and stress on a battery cover.

A scan module is mounted in a frame within an electro-optical scanner. External shocks from the scanner to the frame are resisted by a plurality of shock mounts. Internal vibrations generated by the scan module are resisted from being transmitted to the frame by a plurality of isolation mounts. Printed circuit boards are mounted on the frame to make a compact, vibration-isolated, shock-protected assembly.

Optical scanner

A hand held bar code reader or scanner includes a universal locking cable connector assembly attaching a signal cable to the handle of the scanner. Signals and/or power to and from the scanner are carried by the signal cable. The signal cable is removably connected to a connector recessed in the handle of the scanner. The signal cable includes (i) a connector member attached to a terminal end thereof and engagable with the connector of the scanner handle and (ii) a collar adjacent the connector. A plastic retaining member is positionable over the collar and includes an internal stepped bore forming a collar at one end of the retaining member for engaging the collar portion of the signal cable within the bore. A manually lockable bayonet or threaded portion of the retaining member is formed at an opposite end and cooperates with an internal surface of the scanner for securing the retaining member to the housing. With the retaining member secured to the handle of the scanner, the signal connector is electrically coupled with the connector of the scanner.
