A system and method for maintaining budget related transactions in a financial management system. A financial management system may include a general ledger to maintain account balances and a budgetary ledger to maintain account balances only for budget related transactions. The budgetary ledger may generate a budgetary ledger document, which contains budget related transactions. The budgetary ledger may further include a core to enable generation of the budgetary ledger document, and an extension to define rules associated with generation of the budgetary ledger document. The budgetary ledger may then post the budgetary ledger document to the general ledger.

A system and method for managing grants received from one or more sponsors is proposed. The grants management system receives a transaction request and retrieves data associated with the transaction request from a data cube. The grants management system then determines, from the perspective of the sponsors, if the transaction request satisfies administrative and financial requirements imposed by the sponsors. If the administrative and financial requirements are satisfied, the transaction request is admitted.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for data reconciliation. In one embodiment, information identifying data sources to be reconciled may be received. Data may be retrieved from a first data source based on a dynamic link identifying data in the first data source and data from a second data source may be retrieved based on a dynamic link identifying data in the second data source. A first portion of a reconciliation rule may be processed using the retrieved data from the first data source to generate a first result. A second portion of the reconciliation rule may be processed using the retrieved data from the second data source to generate a second result. The first result may be compared with the second result. If the first result matches the second result, it may be confirmed that data in the first data source is reconciled with the data in the second data source.
