In a method and apparatus for length measurement of a flat good in a goods processing system having first and second stations, each having a sensor in the transport direction of the flat good, a control processor implements a path control and counts encoder pulses of an encoder in the first station. An event is determined by the sensor of the second station, and an associated numerical value Z1 of the encoder pulses is stored in the control processor, as is a numerical value Z2 for a distance between the two sensors is also stored. An additional event is determined by the sensor of the first station, and an associated numerical value Z3 of the encoder pulses is stored. As soon as both events are present, Z2 and the difference &#x394;=Z3&#x2212;Z1 are added by the control processor, and the sum is used to designate the length.

Method for length measurement of a flat good in a goods processing system, and arrangement for implementation of the method

In a dynamic scale for flat goods on their sides, and a control method therefor, flat goods are transported with a continuous counting of encoder pulses, and a weight measurement of a moving flat good is started when the trailing edge of the flat good has reached a first sensor. A first count state of the counter is stored when the leading edge of the flat good reaches a second sensor but a valid weight measurement result is not present. A weight measurement takes place with a transport velocity reduced in steps. After a step-down of the transport velocity of the flat good a subsequent weight measurement is performed with a next lowest transport velocity, and the current counter state is then queried if neither a valid weight measurement result exists, nor can it be established that the trailing edge of the flat good has reached the first sensor, although the leading edge of that flat good has reached the second sensor, as well as a check shows the current counter state corresponds to the sum of the stored counter state and a predetermined count value. The querying steps after the check are repeated as long as the current counter state has not yet reached the sum, and with an additional step-down of the transport velocity of the flat good and weight measurement result, until the check shows the current counter state has reached the sum.

Dynamic scale for flat goods transported on their sides, and method for control thereof

In a dynamic scale and control method for flat goods transported on their sides, use an input-side first assembly for thickness measurement, a transport device having transport belts arranged on a weighing plate. A control processor starts a length measurement and the driving of the transport belts, and starts a thickness measurement and implement a dynamic weighing process during the transport of a first flat good. A next flat good is supplied to the input of the dynamic scale if a valid weight measurement result is present for the predecessor good, and ejection of the predecessor good or end of the weight measurement occur if a third sensor at the input of a takeoff device of the dynamic scale detects the leading edge of the predecessor good, and a check yields that no valid weight measurement result is present for the predecessor good.

Dynamic scale for flat goods transported their sides, and control method therefor

A dynamic scale to achieves a higher throughput, by at least one of a spring steel sheet being installed in the travel direction of the first shaft of the first transport belt, and/or the control of the motors as well as the transmission of the sensor signals taking place via ribbon cables which are arranged parallel to the transport belts, and/or an electronic evaluation of interference oscillations of the signals of the sensors of the weighing cell takes place, within at least one lowpass filter being used, and wherein at least two digital notch filters are used.

Dynamic scale with multiple weighing pans

A feed station has a pre-separation region, a separation region and a transport region in succession along a transport path. A first sensor is at the start of the separation region and a second sensor is at the start of the transport region. A control unit processes signals from the sensors and encoders to determine the position of the flat item, and is connected with a separation motor to drive the separation device, so that a flat item is separated from a stack with a predetermined separation velocity. If unacceptably small gaps exist between the flat items, the separation process is stopped when the leading edge of a subsequent flat item reaches the second sensor and is continued when the preceding separated flat item achieves a predetermined clearance from the leading edge of the aforementioned flat item due to its transport.

Feed station for feeding flat items to a processing apparatus

A modular placement device for a feed station of a mail processing apparatus, wherein the feed station includes an ejection roller, has a housing that is separate for the modular placement device located upstream, in terms of the mail flow, of the feed station. The housing has a cavity therein to receive a stack of mail items, and a pressure element mounted so as to be pivotable and so as to be plugged into the cavity. The pressure element exerts a pressure force on the stack of mail items in the cavity, with a bottommost item of mail being pressed against the ejection roller so that the bottommost item of mail is propelled in the mail flow direction. The weight loss of the stack due to removal of the bottommost item of mail therefrom is counteracted by the pressure element.

Modular placement device of a feed station

A printing mail processing apparatus has an apparatus housing with a cassette bay therein, for removably receiving an exchangeable cassette. The cassette bay is closed by a cassette flap that has a finger on an underside thereof that interacts with a sensor. The sensor can detect, before exchange of a cassette that flap position for which a cassette extraction is possible. A microprocessor is connected to the sensor and uses the signal from the sensor to detect the position of the cassette flap. Given a closed cassette flap, the microprocessor causes voltage to be supplied to a chip reader unit mounted in the cassette bay. Given an opened cassette flap, the microprocessor causes voltage to be disconnected from the chip reader unit before each cassette exchange.

Cassette acceptance device with state recognition for a printing mail processing apparatus

A mail processing apparatus has a field table and a printer disposed above the feed table for printing indicia on a mailpiece moved in a movement direction along the feed table. A start sensor detects a leading edge of the mailpiece and supplies a signal to a microprocessor controller that operates the printer, in order to initiate a printing event on the mailpiece. An ejection roller is disposed following the printer and is operated by a motor to eject the mailpiece from the printer. An end sensor is disposed near the ejection roller and detects a trailing edge of the mailpiece, and supplies a signal to the microprocessor controller that causes the microprocessor controller to disconnect the voltage from the motor that operates the ejection roller.

Printing mail processing apparatus with improved mailpiece throughput

A method of opening a security housing that requires authorization and unlocking moves the printing module transversely by a transverse mover into an additional unlocked position, as a result of which, the security housing or an access thereto is unlocked. The configuration has a mechanical locking or element and a printing module. The printing module is mounted such that it can be moved transversely to the transporting direction, for mechanically releasing the lock of a security-housing part directly or indirectly, by the security-housing part only being released once an additional security-housing part has been unlocked. The latter has a locking element that is disposed in the interior of the security housing and can be actuated by the printing module.

Method of, and configuration for, opening a security housing

A device for printing stock such as pieces of mail in postage meters and/or addressing machines. A guide plate, along which the stock slides, is inclined relative to the vertical and has a recessed region for an ink jet printing device with at least one print head. A conveyor advances the stock along the guide plate. The recessed region includes at least one cutout and a downstream region of the guide plate is so far recessed from a bearing surface for the stock that there is no contact with the latter in that location. That ensures sufficient penetration time for ink and prevents smearing of the printed image. The device improves the printing technology and simplifies transport of the piece of mail. The simple construction ensures precise feeding of the stock and a clean printed image.

Device for printing to stock in non-vertical orientation

A configuration for printing striplike print carriers in a postage meter and/or addressing machine, includes contact-pressure elements secured to a revolving conveyor belt for transporting the print carriers upright and in contact with a guide plate having a printing window. The contact-pressure elements are movable resiliently toward and away from the guide plate and the print carriers are printed by an ink jet print head located behind the printing window. In order to expand a range of use, increase reliability and make it possible to selectively print not only letters but also postage strips or address labels, a strip magazine in an entrance region of the otherwise conventional print carriers, a guide part which is disposed in an insert and is initially concave and then convex in shape, and a spacer part in the printing window, which is adapted to a jet distribution, are disposed at the level of the printing window. The strips are therefore guided essentially centrally along the printing window and above the conveyor belt by the contact-pressure elements, to assure uniform utilization of a printing field of the strips and prevent information losses.

Configuration for printing striplike print carriers

A device for printing stock standing on edge, in particular a piece of mail in postage meters and/or addressing machines includes a guide plate along which the stock slides. The guide plate is inclined relative to the vertical and has a recessed region for a printing device. A rotating conveyor advances the stock along the guide plate. The printing device is an ink jet printing device with at least one ink jet print head. The recessed region includes at least one cutout and a downstream region of the guide plate is so far recessed from a bearing surface for the stock that there is no contact with the latter in that location. That ensures sufficient penetration time for ink and prevents smearing of the printed image. Pressure elements with a pressure plate are fastened to the conveyor. The pressure plate is moved against spring force toward and away from the guide plate and presses the stock against the same. A friction lining fastened to the pressure plate carries the stock. The elastic mounting of the pressure plate ensures continuous adaptation to varying thicknesses of the stock. The direct coupling of the pressure elements with the conveyor and the use of an ink jet print head enables continues transport and printing. The device improves the printing technology and simplifies transport of the piece of mail. The simple construction ensures precise feeding of the stock and a clean printed image.

Device for printing stock

A device for printing stock standing on one edge, in particular a piece of mail in a postage meter and/or addressing machine, includes a guide plate for the stock which is inclined relative to the vertical and has a recessed region for a printing device. A rotating conveyor has a conveying plane which extends orthogonal to the guide plate and on which the stock stands on one edge and is transported in one direction while resting against the guide plate. The recessed region includes at least one cutout and a region of the guide plate downstream of the cutout is so far recessed from a bearing surface for the stock that there is no contact with the latter in this location. This ensures sufficient penetration time for the ink and prevents smearing of the printed image. The printing device is an ink jet printing device which is stationary during printing and which has a nozzle plane that extends parallel to the guide plate. The guide plate is inclined a maximum of 45.degree. from vertical. The conveyor runs continuously. This structure simplifies transport of the piece of mail, improves the printing technology and ensures a clean printed image at high throughput.
