A method and a device for controlling uplink/downlink power for radio communication is disclosed. The method includes receiving a radio communications signal in a radio receiver, estimating one or more parameters indicative of the transmission quality of the received radio communications signal based on power control information bits and pilot symbol bits in the radio communications signal, and generating a control signal for the radio receiver and/or the radio transmitter.

A transmitting and receiving arrangement as well as a method for transmission of monitoring and/or payload data in a transmitting and receiving arrangement for a wirefree communications system has a device which processes baseband for processing digital signals to form a baseband signal and a device which processes radio frequency for conversion of the baseband signal to a radio frequency signal. Frequency channel selection in a data transmission method uses a frequency hopping method. In a first method step, interference in a frequency channel is determined by detecting multiple erroneous transmissions in the frequency channel, and the frequency channel with interference is then eliminated from the frequency hopping sequence. In a second method step, the strength of external signals is measured within the frequency range of an eliminated frequency channel with interference, and the frequency channel is reinserted into the frequency hopping sequence if the strength is below a prescribed threshold value.

In this case, it is ensured that the occurring quotient of load change and time duration for the transition from the first operating state to the second operating state does not exceed a predetermined limit value, thereby reducing or avoiding transients associated with such switching.
