A lattice energy converter (LEC) is disclosed that produces ionizing radiation and/or electricity based on the thermal energy in the lattice of a specially prepared working electrode comprised in whole or in part of hydrogen host materials that are occluded with hydrogen or the isotopes of hydrogen and wherein the hydrogen host materials may include vacancies, superabundant vacancies, and other lattice defects. When the hydrogen host material is occluded with hydrogen, the LEC was found to self-initiate the production of ionizing radiation and, when the hydrogen host materials are in fluidic contact with a gas or vapor containing hydrogen or isotopes of hydrogen, the LEC was found to self-sustain the production of ionizing radiation. When the LEC includes one or more additional electrodes or electrode structures, the ionizing radiation was found to be converted to electrical energy. Materials that are normally considered to be radioactive are not required.

Lattice energy conversion device

A gaseous-phase ionizing radiation generator for the voltage controlled production, flux, and use of one or more forms of ionizing electromagnetic and/or particulate radiation including: embodiments to collect and convert the particulate radiation that is generated by the radiation generator into electricity; embodiments that generate electricity from the ionized gas within the radiation generator by means of an auxiliary electrode structure composed of interdigitated individual electrodes of alternating work function; and a method or procedure for the fabrication and the activation of at least one working electrode composed in part of a metal hydride host material that is not formally considered to be radioactive.

Gaseous-phase ionizing radiation generator

This application relates to the production, storage, and controlled release of hydrogen for use in the hydrogen economy. More specifically, it relates to a novel electrolysis system design that utilizes electrolysis of ionized vapors and gasses to produce and store hydrogen in a hydrogen host material and the capability to reverse the electrolysis potential to provide safe, controlled hydrogen release.

Electrolysis reactor system

A method may include the steps of supplying current to the electrodes of an electrochemical cell according to a first charging profile, wherein the electrochemical cell has an anode, cathode, and electrolytic solution; maintaining a generally constant current between the electrodes; exposing the cell to an external field either during or after the termination of the deposition of deuterium absorbing metal on the cathode; and supplying current to the electrodes according to a second charging profile during the exposure of the cell to the external field. The electrolytic solution may include a metallic salt including palladium, and a supporting electrolyte, each dissolved in heavy water. The cathode may comprise a second metal that does not substantially absorb deuterium, such as gold. The external field may be a magnetic field.

System and method for generating particles

A device includes a plurality of channel-capture circuits. Each circuit may include an array of N non-linear oscillators, wherein N&#x2267;3, circularly connected to each other in series such that unidirectional signal flow occurs between the oscillators. Each circuit may be configured to capture a respective channel signal from a wideband signal containing a plurality of channel signals and convert its captured channel signal to a lower frequency. Each oscillator may include an oscillator input configured to receive an output signal from another oscillator, an oscillator output configured to provide an output for an input of another oscillator, a frequency capture input configured to receive at least a portion of the wideband signal, at least two amplifiers, and a control capacitor coupled to the output of the amplifiers. An analog-to-digital converter may be coupled to the output of each channel-capture circuit.

Wideband non-linear circuits for implementation in frequency channel separation

A controlled stochastic resonance circuit applies stochastic resonance to bias a nonlinear device with a control signal having a selected amplitude, frequency, and phase to enhance or suppress the response of the device to a periodic signal embedded in noise.

Controlled stochastic resonance circuit

A stochastic resonator signal detector comprises a multi-stable nonlinear device for coupling to an input signal and a control signal coupled to the multi-stable nonlinear device for varying asymmetry among stable states of the multi-stable nonlinear device. The interaction of the input signal with the control signal in the multi-stable nonlinear device generates an output signal having an amplitude responsive to the input signal amplitude and a frequency range that comprises harmonics of products of the control signal and the input signal.

Stochastic resonance detector for weak signals

A Frequency Dispersive Transmitting Array (30) for propagating composite e energy (10) emulates narrow-band beams (20) of different frequencies which can be simultaneously radiated in all directions, or in any subset of directions, relative to an array (42) of radiating elements (32) because of the addition and cancellation of components of wave energy (10) radiated, is disclosed. A signal source (34) provides input signals (36), having frequencies which may be acoustic or electromagnetic, which are coupled by feedline (37) to radiating elements (32) through a plurality of time delay devices (38). Each one of time delay devices (38) is interposed between successive ones of radiating elements (32) and delays emission of replicas of signals (36) therefrom by a time delay .tau..sub.0 which is a multiple of the period of the dominant frequency radiated in a direction broadside to the array. Window weighting function devices (40) are coupled into feedline (37) modifying signals (36) ahead of radiating elements (32) to control the behavior of side lobes of the beam as in a conventional beam-forming array. Frequency dispersion of the beams (20) is controlled by selection of the bandwidth of input signals (36) having frequencies in a desired spectrum depending on the use of the system. Direction (.theta.) of an object from transmitting array (30) is determinable from the frequency of wave energy (10) either directly received at the object or reflected by the object to a remote receiver, because each direction (.theta.) corresponds to a distinct frequency (f) of transmitted wave energy (10).

Frequency dispersive transmitting array

Apparatus for providing a stable platform for equipment to be employed in underwater environment includes a fin assembly for preventing uncontrolled azimuthal motion of the equipment when the fin assembly is suspended in the underwater environment to a level at which a current is present. The equipment is joined to a mounting which is rotatably positioned upon the fin assembly, and is oriented to a selected azimuth by the rotatable mounting in response to control signals received thereby, the fin assembly remaining at a fixed azimuthal orientation determined by the direction of the current as the mounting azimuthally displaces the equipment.

Current stabilized underwater platform

An apparatus for launching stores from a recess of a vehicle submerged in a arine environment includes a capsule having an elongated body of rectangular cross section for enclosing the stores. A structure for providing hydrodynamic stability to the capsule is joined thereto, the capsule and stabilizing structure together being receivable into the recess. The apparatus is further provided with a first hatch for sealing the recess from the marine environment when the apparatus is received thereinto.
