A device in accordance to an embodiment includes a tubular housing having an inside diameter defining an axial bore, a top surface and an outer surface, a groove formed along the outer surface below the top surface, a flapper pivotally connected with the housing and pivotal between an open position to allow flow through the bore and a closed position to block flow through the bore and a torsion spring having a spring diameter and disposed in the groove and in connection with the flapper to bias the flapper to one of the open and the closed position. The torsion spring may be nested in a C-shaped groove.

A technique employs a formation isolation valve that utilizes a ball rotatably mounted within a valve housing. The valve is designed to enable rotation of the ball about a fixed axis without translation of the ball. Rotation of the ball is achieved by connecting an arm to the ball at a position offset from the axis of rotation. A movable mandrel also is connected to the arm to enable selective actuation of the ball.

System and method for formation isolation

A technique enables failsafe control over actuators used to actuate downhole tools. The technique may utilize a well system having a tool with an adjustable member. An actuation mechanism serves as a fail-as-is mechanism and works in cooperation with the adjustable member. The actuation member is shiftable upon receiving a predetermined input; however the actuation member does not move the adjustable member upon each shift. Once the actuation member has been shifted the requisite number of times to move the adjustable member to another position, at least one subsequent shift of the actuation member is not able to cause movement of the adjustable member. The result is a fail-as-is technique for ensuring the tool is not inadvertently actuated to another operational position.
