A model (e.g., mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) model) representing an assembly is displayed in a graphical user interface (GUI). The assembly contains at least a first body and a second body. The physics type of the model is determined in response to an assignment of a physics condition to the first body and/or the second body. Contact-pairs are detected in the model according to the determined physics type. The GUI is updated to indicate where the contact-pairs are located in the model for revision of the contact-pairs. Markers are shown in the GUI to represent corresponding contact-pairs. Markers are logically separated from bodies and faces in the model. The revision of the contact-pairs can be managed with a filtering mechanism either by bodies/faces or by markers.

An improved help system for a user interface of a computer program uses a mask with one or more cutouts to focus a user's attention to the cutout portion(s) and uses the mask to display dynamically positioned help information, such as roll over hints, in the available space on the mask. An intelligent placement algorithm is used to control placement of the help information to avoid overlaps among the help information displayed on the mask. The portions of the user interface (UI) under the mask not selectable while under the one or more masks and the other portions of the UI are selectable while in the one or more cutouts. The roll over hints can be similar to coach marks that include arrows that point from the help information on the mask to an associated UI command in a cutout.

Computer based methods, systems, and techniques for planning and generating machining paths for a tool that manufactures a three dimensional object having beveled or 'compound' contours from a workpiece. A computer aided design (CAD)/computer aided manufacturing (CAM) system creates intermediate machining path surfaces that extend based on a CAD solid model representing the geometry of the object to be manufactured. The intermediate machining path surfaces extend to a shape that simulates a cutting beam (e.g., a waterjet, a laser beam, etc.) of the tool. For a flat workpiece, the machining path surfaces may extend from a top surface of the workpiece, which is a tool beam entrance surface, to a bottom surface of the workpiece, which is a tool beam exit surface. An operator is able to visualize the cuts to be made and the actual finished object geometry, without requiring the creation of multiple CAD solid models.

Computer-implemented systems and methods for updating a polygonal mesh representation of a model are provided. A model comprises a set of topologies, and a meshing state is maintained for each topology of the set of topologies. The meshing state indicates, for a given topology, whether a polygonal mesh exists and is valid. A change made to the model is determined, where the change comprises a modification to a geometry of the model or a modification to mesh settings of a polygonal mesh representation of the model. One or more topologies of the set of topologies that are affected by the change are determined, and the meshing state for the affected one or more topologies is updated. Based on the one or more updated meshing states, a set of meshing operations needed to bring the polygonal mesh representation of the model up-to-date is determined.
