A method for repulping a wet strength paper is disclosed. Wet strength paper, which contains a wet strength resin, is agitated in water to form an aqueous slurry. An effective amount of a composition that contains a dry mixture of a persulfate and a base in the range of 90:10 to 10:90 is added either before or during agitation, and the slurry heated to produce pulp product for paper manufacture. The persulfate/base combination is capable of breaking down the wet strength resin and adjusting or maintaining the pH at a predetermined level without additional chemical treatment.

Persulfate mixtures for repulping wet strength paper

A composition containing a persulfate and a carbonate, a bicarbonate or sesquicarbonate, which composition is suitable for oxidizing wet strength resin based broke used in wet strength paper. The combination decreases the time required for effectively repulping broke from such paper. Additionally, the combination is a single product capable of beaking down the wet strength resin and adjusting or maintaining pH at a predetermined value without additional chemical treatment.

Persulfates are used to provide water clarity when organic sanitizers such as biguanides are utilized for sanitizing recreational waters. Persulfate applications of 2 ppm or more can be used. Additionally, maintenance applications of the persulfate or the bisulfate can be used.

Method for treating water using an organic sanitizer and a persulfate

Fats and proteins in wastewater are commonly concentrated in a dissolved air flotation cell as a sludge ('skimmings') which has a very high water content, even after centrifuging or the like. A process is provided to reduce the water content of the sludge thereby reducing the cost of disposal of the sludge.

Dewatering sludge

A process is provided for purifying finely divided minerals contacting organic material sufficiently to make the minerals useful for coating a filling paper or for use as catalysts, catalyst supports or the like. The process comprises concomitantly contacting an aqueous slurry of the mineral with a peroxygen and a gas containing ozone at a pH from 5 to 12. Preferably, the peroxygen is incorporated into the slurry prior to contacting the slurry with a gas containing ozone. Optionally, the slurry may be pretreated with a chelating agent or subsequently bleached with a reducing agent.

Process for preparing a purified mineral coating

Means are provided for increasing the productivity of a hydrocarbon formation by modifying the formation in the vicinity of the borehole by a succession of treatments utilizing a first fluid which releases energy within the borehole and a second fluid modifying the fluid within the borehole. The means provides successive treatment of steam, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and inert gases in any order desired.

Stimulation of hydrocarbon flow from a geological formation

A process of recovering uranium values as uranium peroxide from an aqueous uranyl solution containing dissolved vanadium and sodium impurities by treating the uranyl solution with hydrogen peroxide in an amount sufficient to have an excess of at least 0.5 parts H.sub.2 O.sub.2 per part of vanadium (V.sub.2 O.sub.5) above the stoichiometric amount required to form the uranium peroxide, the hydrogen peroxide treatment being carried out in three sequential phases consisting of I, a precipitation phase in which the hydrogen peroxide is added to the uranyl solution to precipitate the uranium peroxide and the pH of the reaction medium maintained in the range of 2.5 to 5.5 for a period of from about 1 to 60 minutes after the hydrogen peroxide addition; II, a digestion phase in which the pH of the reaction medium is maintained in the range of 3.0 to 7.0 for a period of about 5 to 180 minutes and III, a final phase in which the pH of the reaction medium is maintained in the range of 4.0 to 7.0 for a period of about 1 to 60 minutes during which time the uranium peroxide is separated from the reaction solution containing the dissolved vanadium and sodium impurities. The excess hydrogen peroxide is maintained during the entire treatment up until the uranium peroxide is separated from the reaction medium.

Production of uranium peroxide

Desizing glass fabric by dampening sized glass fabric with an aqueous desizing solution containing 1.0 to 18.0 g/l sodium carbonate peroxide to provide about 0.03% to about 0.50% sodium carbonate peroxide on the fabric based on the weight of the dry fabric being dampened, removing the dampened fabric from the aqueous desizing solution heating the dampened fabric, and washing the fabric to remove desizing solution and size.
