A method and an apparatus are provided for predicting the temporal course of a power requirement in a housing development comprising a plurality of power consumers and a common power supply that is subject to a temporally variable tariff. A prediction of the power consumption of the housing development for a future time period is continuously updated, each prediction of the power consumption using data of detected load profiles of the housing development in the time period having, a current prediction for the future time period being calculated on the basis of a previous prediction and a previously detected load profile The predictions and the detected load profiles are assigned characteristic variables, the predictions of which are known and which have an influence on the load profiles, and a current prediction for the future time period being calculated on the basis of a previous prediction and a previously detected load profile, each having the same characteristic variables.

Method and apparatus for predicting the temporal course of a power requirement in a housing development

The invention relates to an optical isolator comprising a polarizer adapted to polarize a beam of incident light to form a beam of polarized light, an analyzer adapted to transmit said beam of polarized light and to polarize back-reflected light, a magneto-optical element disposed between the polarizer and the analyzer, which magneto-optical element rotates the polarization direction of said beam of polarized light, and a magnet generating a magnetic field penetrating said magneto-optical element. It is an object of the invention to provide a temperature-compensated optical isolator that achieves a high degree of isolation at a minimum insertion loss over a given temperature range, without any need of manual tuning. The invention proposes to make provision for an automatic actuator mechanically connected to said magneto-optical element to move said magneto-optical element relative to said magnet in response to a temperature variation or in response to a variation of the wavelength of the incident light. Alternatively, the automatic actuator may be mechanically connected to said magnet to move said magnet relative to said magneto-optical element.

Temperature-compensated optical isolator

The aim of the invention is to optimize the analysis of substances separated by gas chromatography with a gas chromatograph, comprising a separating device and a mass spectrometer situated down there from. To this end, a detector that detects the separated substances in a nondestructive manner is placed in-line between the output of the separating device and a controllable inlet valve of the mass spectrometer. A projection surface includes scattering microparticles that are in constant motion in relation to each other and to a source of laser radiation in a laser projection system. The microparticles reduce the formation of spots that normally occur when viewing the contents of images which are uniformly illuminated by means of laser projection and which are reflected off a projection surface. The microparticles are reflective in a suspension fluid and move due to Brownian molecular motion. A mirror is placed on the back wall of the screen so that the viewer sees both the backscattered light from the incident beam as well as the forward scattered light from the reflected beam. A cellular structure is located in the suspension fluid to laterally confine the scattered light increasing the sharpness of the laser light seen by the viewer.

The invention relates to a transverse electro-optic modulator for modulating a light beam having a mean wavelength &lgr;. The transverse electro-optic modulator includes at least one birefringent single-crystal modulator element of a predefined length, and controlled by means of an electronic amplifier. The transverse electro-optic modulator further includes a compensator element is made of the same birefringent single-crystal material. The invention is characterized in that for any thickness and a defined length, the thickness of the at least one modulator element is less than both the height and the width of the compensator element.
