A system includes: a light source; first and second gratings; and at least one reflective component that in a first position forms a first light path originating at the light source and extending to the first grating and thereafter to a subsequent component in the system, and that in a second position forms a second light path originating at the light source and extending to the second grating and thereafter to the subsequent component.

Structured illumination of a sample

An optical mount has a component support for an optical component, a clamp member and a frame. The frame has a component support interface that, when positioned against the component support, defines a first spherical curvature for pivoting the component support about a center of curvature. A clamping interface defines a second spherical curvature, concentric with the center of curvature of the component support interface, for pivoting the clamp member. A coupling is configured to urge the clamp member toward the component support against the frame.

Optical mount

An optical shutter apparatus has a shutter blade pivotable between first and second positions. The shutter blade in the first position blocks at least a portion of a light path. A stepper motor pivots the shutter blade to first or second positions. A magnetic shutter blade retention apparatus has a first movable member with a first surface, coupled to the shutter blade. A first stationary member is spaced apart from the shutter blade and is magnetically attracted to the first stationary member when the stepper motor is de-energized. When the shutter blade is pivoted to the first position, a point on the first surface is spaced apart from the first stationary member by a first distance; when the shutter blade is pivoted to the second position, the point on the first surface is spaced apart from the first stationary member by a second distance that is less than the first.

Shutter with power-free magnetic detent

The instant invention senses shutter blade position indirectly by sensing the position of rotor(s) driving the shutter blade in an electromagnetically driven actuator system. It generally comprehends systems where a plurality of rotors each drive respective blades of a shutter such that the position of each of the rotors is indicative of the position of their respective shutter blades, and combines such systems with non-optical sensors responsive to the rotors which signal the position of the shutter blades based on the position of the rotors. The non-optical sensors used are preferably responsive to the magnetic fields produced by the rotors, and can be advantageously positioned adjacent stator poles associated with the rotors, which stator poles are associated with the open or closed positions of the shutter blades. The sensors are preferably Hall Effect (Hall IC) sensors producing voltages proportionate to and greatest when the pole of a magnet is proximate the Hall Effect sensor. Thus, the system can be arranged with sensors adjacent stator poles associated with a closed blade/shutter configuration, or arranged with sensors adjacent stator poles associated with an open blade/shutter configuration, so that the voltage signal produced is highest/lowest for either a closed/open shutter condition or the opposite.

Magnetic shutter blade position sensing method

The instant invention teaches a compact collection lens with finite conjugates for use in coupling the collected energy from a broadband source into a multi-mode fiber. The lens is reflective in nature and provides finite conjugate imaging in one piece. The entrance and exit surfaces are made concentric with the object and image so that on-axis imaging is completely free of chromatic aberrations. The primary is nominally elliptical and is the only surface with optical power in the lens. The secondary is planar and serves to fold the progressing rays back in the original direction. In summary, the invention comprises a monolithic lens composed of four optical surfaces (two reflective and two transmissive) such that the primary and secondary mirrors are annular and the entrance and exit surfaces are predominantly spherical with their centers located at the front and back focal points.

On-axis monolithic ellipsoidal lens for optical coupling systems

A reflaxicon system comprising two or more reflaxicons, either, neither, or both of which can be formed of solid light transmitting material, is provided and described for use and implementation as objectives, relays, and beam expanders. Each reflaxicon features a central substantially cone shaped surface and a distal surface shaped like a truncated cone with both of said surfaces aligned with and symmetrically arranged around a central axis. In the system provided said central axes are aligned and form the optical axis of the system and further curvatures can be provided to any of said surfaces as well as to incident and exiting system surfaces to provide additional optical effects as required for different applications. Further, the conical surfaces forming the central reflectors can each or both be convex or concave, with ease of construction mitigating in favor of dual concave central reflectors as the preferred embodiment.
