In accordance with the present invention, there are provided solar water pasteurizers that are portable, efficient, inexpensive and easy to use. In its simplest form, the solar pasteurizer includes a transparent container such as a bag or envelope that contains at least one energy converting structure and has sufficient insulation to enable heating water to a temperature of at least 65&#xb0; C. (and preferably to a temperature of at least 70&#xb0; C.) for a time sufficient to achieve pasteurization (at 65-70&#xb0; C., a period of only about 6 minutes is required for pasteurization). Invention solar pasteurizers are particularly useful for pasteurizing water. In additional embodiments, invention solar pasteurizers include additional features, such as, for example, a water pasteurization indicator, and a receptacle for retaining same within the invention container. In accordance with another embodiment of the invention, there are provided methods for pasteurizing water employing solar pasteurizers described herein, as well as kits suitable to convert any transparent water tight container into a solar water pasteurizer.

Solar water pasteurizer

A solar water still () includes an enclosure assembly () and an evaporation assembly () that float on a body of source water and that are readily collapsed and folded for storage or transport. The enclosure assembly includes a transparent conical dome () covering a collection reservoir () and an inner float ring (). The evaporation assembly is placed in the center of the inner float ring. During operation, solar radiation induces water to evaporate from the evaporation assembly. The water vapor is then condensed and collected by the enclosure assembly.

Solar water still

In accordance with the present invention, there are provided novel hydrophobic compositions comprising a defined hydrophobic maleimide moiety and optionally, a hydrophobic cyanate ester moiety. Invention compositions have excellent moisture resistance (and, hence are much less prone to give rise to &ldquo;popcorning&rdquo;), excellent handling properties (i.e., generally existing as a fluid material which does not require the addition of solvent to facilitate the use thereof), and excellent performance properties (e.g., good dielectric properties).

Maleimide containing formulations and uses therefor

In accordance with the present invention, there are provided novel compositions based on a defined maleimide moiety. Invention compositions have excellent moisture resistance (and, hence are much less prone to give rise to 'popcorning'), excellent handling properties (i.e., generally existing as a fluid material which does not require the addition of solvent to facilitate the use thereof), and excellent performance properties (e.g., good dielectric properties).

Malemide containing formulations and uses therefor

A rectangular frame contains a plurality of upwardly opening trays each having a heat absorber element with a plurality of upstanding vanes. A lens associated with each tray concentrates incident solar radiation on the vanes to preferentially heat a portion of the liquid filling the tray to a relatively high temperature at which vaporization is more efficiently accomplished than in prior solar stills. The evaporated liquid is condensed on an overlying surface and is collected for later use. The system may be used in distilling water and in solar refrigeration.

A silver glass paste consists of 60-75% silver flake having a tap density greater than 2.8 gm/cc and less than 5.0 gm/cc. The silver flake has a poly-modal flake size distribution. The paste further consists of 12-20% glass frit, 0.5-2% of a suitable organic resin and 8-20% of a suitable organic solvent. The resin may be acrylic and the organic solvent may be an ester alcohol or an ester alcohol mixed with a glycol ether or glycol ether ester.

Silver-glass paste with poly-modal flake size distribution and quick dry

Silver flake and lead borate glass frit are suspended in a liquid organic vehicle of resin and solvent. The silver flakes are present in two different size ranges. The plate is applied between the silicon die and the substrate and is oven fired to provide a bond that accommodates the different coefficients of thermal expansion of the silicon and ceramic substrate. The smaller silver particles improve the sintering of the silver and glass and thereby increase the bond strength while the larger silver particles minimize undersirable shrinkage and cracking of the resultant bond. Silver oxide particles or a special solvent mixture are also used in the paste.

Silver-glass paste for attachment of silicon die to ceramic substrate

A highly efficient and economic solar distillation unit comprising a plurality of angled trays in a frame, each tray including a vaned absorber element on the bottom surface. The trays are extruded in plastic and cut to size, as are the absorber elements and frame sidewalls. Frame endwalls are cut from flat extrusions. A transparent glass removable cover completes the basic assembly, but many variations are possible, including means to monitor and control water level within the unit from a storage tank. With the exception of an optional check valve there are no moving parts. There are no metal parts, and the basic unit is glued together from plastic extrusions and flat plates.
