A handheld, conforming capacitive sensing apparatus configured to measure Sub-Epidermal Moisture (SEM) as a mean to detect and monitor the formation of pressure ulcers. The device incorporates an array of electrodes which are excited to measure and scan SEM in a programmable and multiplexed manner by a battery-less RF-powered chip. The scanning operation is initiated by an interrogator which excites a coil embedded in the apparatus and provides the needed energy burst to support the scanning/reading operation. Each electrode measures the equivalent sub-epidermal capacitance corresponding and representing the moisture content.

A method to simulate distillation of a petroleum stream by gas chromatography can include separating the petroleum stream with a gas chromatograph as a function of boiling point; passing the separated petroleum stream through a vacuum ultraviolet detector to yield data comprising a vacuum ultraviolet signal as a function of boiling point; integrating the vacuum ultraviolet signal as a function of boiling point over two or more wavelength ranges to derive relative concentrations of two or more components of the separated petroleum stream that correspond to the two or more wavelength ranges.

Simulated distillation using gas chromatography with vacuum ultraviolet detection

A method of screening a hydrocarbon stream for potential toxicological hazards. The method involves providing a hydrocarbon stream; conducting 2-dimensional gas chromatography (2D-GC) analysis to quantify saturates and aromatic distribution in the hydrocarbon stream; identifying 2-8 ring aromatic distribution and weight percentage of 2-8 ring aromatic molecules in the hydrocarbon stream from the 2D-GC analysis; relating the weight percentage of 2-8 ring aromatic molecules in the hydrocarbon stream from the 2D-GC analysis to a mutagenicity index (MI), in which the MI is determined in accordance with ASTM Standard Method E 1687; and assessing a potential toxicological hazard of the hydrocarbon stream based on the weight percentage of 2-8 ring aromatic molecules in the hydrocarbon stream from the 2D-GC analysis and a MI threshold value. The 2-8 ring aromatic distribution preferably includes 3-6 ring aromatics, more preferably 3.5-5.5 ring aromatics. The 2-8 ring aromatic distribution includes mono alkylated and multi alkylated aromatic molecules.

Composition and method of screening hydrocarbons to limit potential toxicological hazards

The present disclosure provides ketone waxes, methods of forming ketone waxes, and compositions comprising ketone waxes. In at least one embodiment, a ketone wax is provided. The ketone wax includes about 50 wt % or greater C-Cketone content; about 50 wt % or greater of the ketone wax has a boiling point of 961&#xb0; F. or greater; and a paraffins content of less than about 10 wt %, as determined by 2-dimensional gas chromatography. In at least one embodiment, a method for forming a C-Cketone wax includes exposing a feed stock to a basic catalyst under conditions suitable for coupling unsaturated carbon chains from the feed to form a composition including a ketone wax, oligomerizing the ketone wax to form a ketone wax having C-Cketone wax, and distilling and/or extracting the oligomerized ketone wax to provide a C-Cketone wax of the present disclosure.

The specified utility fluid comprises &#x2267;10.0 wt % aromatic and non-aromatic ring compounds and each of the following: (a) &#x2267;1.0 wt % of 1.0 ring class compounds; (b) &#x2267;5.0 wt % of 1.5 ring class compounds; (c) &#x2267;5.0 wt % of 2.0 ring class compounds; and (d) &#x2266;0.1 wt % of 5.0 ring class compounds. Provided are high viscosity high quality Group II lube base stocks with improved properties produced by an integrated hydrocracking and dewaxing process. In one form, the Group II lube base stock includes greater than or equal to 90 wt. % saturates, and less than 10 wt. % aromatics, and has an aromatic performance ratio between 1.0 and 5.0. Also provided are lubricant formulations including the high viscosity high quality Group II lube base stock.
