Methods and apparatus for preventing spam e-mail messages from being propagated or transmitted by monitoring user interaction events associated with the system are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a method for processing a first e-mail message on a system that transmits e-mail message and has an input device includes identifying an attempt to transmit the first e-mail message; and determining whether a user interaction event has occurred within a given time interval. If it is determined that a user interaction event has not occurred within the given time interval, the first e-mail message is prevented from being transmitted.

Method and apparatus for preventing outgoing spam e-mails by monitoring client interactions

A VoIP adapter module for a VoIP phone system switches the phone connection from a broadband connection to a wired connection when a power outage or a broadband disconnection is detected. The switch is accomplished by establishing a connection from a telephone connected to an RJ11 port on the module to a wired channel connected to a backup RJ11 port on the module. Detection for power outage is by comparing the device voltage with a reference voltage, and detection for broadband connection is by sending out a PING packet and waiting to see if a return packet is received.

When a message is received by the store and forward system, the header is interrogated and if an ID related to the serial number of the receiving machine is detected, the fax is not again stored and the system notes that the transmission to the fax machine was not successful.

In response, the remote voicemail system sends an acknowledgment message containing information on the remote voicemail user. The methods include a message identification scheme wherein a message identification number is assigned to the first-received message portion, and the caller is prompted to provide that message identification number in connection with the later-received message portion. The digital line card includes a digital signal processing integrated circuit, a microprocessor and a random access memory component for storing coding schemes employed by the digital signal processing integrated circuit. The digital line card is programmed to detect the presence of dual-tone multifrequency command signals in the incoming data stream, and to switch between voice and data processing responsive to the command signals.
