A device and a process are employed to prepare sheets from a film tube. The process steps include extruding the film tube, laying the film tube flat and squeezing it, reversing the film tube, and cutting the extruded film tube. The film tube is cut before the squeezing step and at least one resulting sheet runs through only one reversing device before the sheet is fed to a stationary processing device or storage device.

Equipment that lays flat films or tubular films extruded by a blown film extrusion installation has at least one roller, which guides the walls of the film or the tubular film. The lay-flat equipment has at least one device that influences the rotational speed of the roller by providing a torque that can be transferred onto the roller by a transfer device. The transfer device provides for slippage between the roller and the device that provides the torque, thereby ensuring a smooth transfer of torque and preventing damage to the film.

An extruder die head for producing multilayered tubes made of thermoplastic material exhibits a central annular channel, which is provided with an annular outlet die. Into the outer limiting wall of the channel empty annular slits, which feed a polymer melt and which constitute the smaller diameter openings of truncated channels, formed between the internal and external shells of stacked, conical insert members. In a process of manufacturing oriented tapes, which have been folded at least once, from synthetic thermoplastics, particularly for use in the manufacture of high-strength woven fabrics, the tapes are folded on themselves before they are wound on the spool used for their further processing.

Sacks are made from a web comprising a tube of stretched plastics tape fabric woven around a thermoplastic tubular film. The web is continuously fed to a storage device from which two-ply sack lengths are intermittently withdrawn and severed and provided with a stitched base seam. Each severing cut is made to extend through transverse strips of hot-melt adhesive which were applied to both sides of the fabric tube and cooled. After severing and prior to stitching through both plies, the inner ply is provided with a separate base seam by means of welding jaws.

A shuttle for a circular loom comprises trunnions supporting and turning together with a winding core of a tape package. One of the trunnions carries a brake disc co-operating with a brake shoe carried by a pivoted lever which is connected to a rocker shaft by a spring. An arm on the shaft is spring-biassed to rest on the tape unwound from the package. If the tape slackens or breaks, the arm and hence the shaft turn to pivot the lever and thereby apply more pressure between the brake shoe and rotating brake disc.

A flattened tube of continuous film is opened up by being fed over a mandrel which is floatingly disposed within the tube. As the tube is passing over the mandrel, which serves as a backing, a layer of reinforcing tapes is helically wound thereabout and fixed thereto, whereafter the tube is flattened again. Each side of the tube is then successively provided with a layer of parallel further reinforcing tapes which are anchored by a plastics covering layer that is extruded thereon and pressed thereto.

Lined plastics sacks are made from tube sections successively severed from a tubular web consisting of a tubular inner layer of thermoplastic film around which a circular fabric of stretched plastics tapes is woven to form an outer layer. In each severed tube section, the layers are interconnected by a seam at one end to define a sack. The outer layer may be formed with side pleats defining three outwardly directed folds, the inner layer being flattened and disposed in the central such fold before the sack is filled.

A composite web comprises a film of plastics or other material laminated to a reinforcing layer formed by a network of tapes which extend in zigzag fashion back and forth across the laminating film with their points of reversal within the confines of the film edges so as to be covered by the film. If there are two equally wide laminating films, one on each face of the reinforcing tape layer, the films may be offset to overlap one another laterally and the width of the tape layer exceeds that of each film by the amount of overlap, whereby the points of reversal of the tapes are covered by one of the films along one longitudinal edge of the web and by the other film along the other longitudinal edge of the web.
