In a method for forming a fuel/air mixture of a directly injecting internal combustion engine with a spark ignition, the fuel injection is configured in a stratified charge operating mode of the internal combustion engine in such a way that a first, a second and optionally a third part amount are introduced into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke of the internal combustion engine. The injection of the final part amount is ended at a crank angle which lies in a range between &#x2212;2&#xb0; CA and 20&#xb0; CA before the ignition time.

Method for operating an externally ignited internal combustion engine

The invention relates to two methods for forming a fuel/air mixture of a directly injecting internal combustion engine with a spark ignition. In the first method, the fuel injection is configured in a homogeneous operating mode of the internal combustion engine in such a way that a first and a second part amount are introduced in the intake stroke, and a third part amount is introduced in the compression stroke, wherein the ignition of the fuel/air mixture which is formed takes place after the end of injection of the third part amount. In the second method, the fuel injection is configured in a stratified charge operating mode of the internal combustion engine in such a way that a first, a second and a third part amount are introduced into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke of the internal combustion engine, wherein the injection of the second part amount is ended at a crank angle which lies in a range between 15&#xb0; CA before the ignition time to 4&#xb0; CA after the ignition time.

Methods for operating a spark-ignition internal combustion engine

A method of operating an internal combustion engine with an injection device, wherein the method includes the steps of feeding combustion air to a combustion chamber via an inlet port, injecting fuel into the combustion chamber using a fuel nozzle arranged in the combustion chamber, igniting a formed fuel/air mixture at a certain ignition point using a spark plug arranged in the combustion chamber, and, during the starting of the internal combustion engine, selecting a high-pressure or a low pressure start as a function of a minimum fuel pressure built up in the injection device within a defined number of cycles. The minimum fuel pressure and the number of cycles are selected as a function of a combustion-chamber temperature. The injection of the fuel into the combustion chamber takes place in a timed sequence during the starting operation.

Method for operating an internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection

In an internal combustion engine comprising a cylinder-head with at least one combustion chamber in the cylinder head and the cylinder head has at least one intake passage and one exhaust passage, and an external exhaust gas recirculation line which branches off from the exhaust passage and opens at least into one of the intake passages, a pivotable flap is arranged between the exhaust gas recirculation passage and the associated intake passage in the region where the exhaust gas recirculation line is connected to the intake passage, the flap opening or closing a connection between the intake passage and the exhaust gas recirculation passage as a function of the pivoting position adjustment of the flap.
