A food slicer has a support member including a base portion and an upstanding portion integrally formed with the base portion. The upstanding portion includes a rotating cutting blade for slicing food product. The base portion includes a food product table slidably secured thereto for movement across the cutting blade for holding product while it is being sliced. An adjustable gage plate is provided for determining the thickness of a food product to be sliced. A sharpening mechanism for sharpening the cutting blade as needed is removably secured to a portion of the product table to provide accurate sharpening of the cutting blade. The sharpening mechanism includes a first rotating sharpening member and a second deburring member where the first and second members are mounted independent from each other.

A food slicer is provided having a support member including a base portion and an upstanding portion integrally formed with the base portion. The upstanding portion includes a rotating cutting blade secured thereto for slicing food product and at least one motor positioned within the upstanding portion for rotating the cutting blade. An adjustable gage plate also is provided for determining the thickness of a food product to be sliced by the cutting blade. The base portion includes a food product table slidably secured thereto and is movable across the cutting blade for holding product while it is being sliced by the cutting blade. The food product table has at least one peripheral reinforcement along an edge thereof where the reinforcement has a hollow channel therein.

A food slicer is provided having a support member including a base portion and an upstanding portion integrally formed with the base portion. The upstanding portion includes a rotating cutting blade secured thereto for slicing food product and at least one motor positioned within the upstanding portion for rotating the cutting blade. The base portion includes a food product table slidably secured thereto and is movable across the cutting blade for holding product while it is being sliced by the cutting blade. An adjustable gage plate also is provided for determining the thickness of a food product to be sliced by the cutting blade. A product fence for assisting in holding and stabilizing food product during slicing is included where the fence is removably secured to a portion of the food product table by frictional engagement therebetween.

A motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine and a lubricating oil circulation system provides estimates of the distance remaining before an oil change becomes imperative. An indirect estimate of the depletion of various additives and the deterioration of oil operating characteristics is based on engine operating variables including oil temperature, ignition timing and engine load. The limit of depletion of total base number is dynamic, since it is set against total acid number and the two figures are independently calculated.

Method of estimating engine lubricant condition

A captive fastener retention member includes a cylindrical body having a flange at one end thereof. Work piece retention members project outwardly of the body for securing the retention member in a bore of a work piece. A dimple projects inwardly in the retention member to hold a fastener. The flange on the retention member rests against a work piece, and is shaped to inhibit scratching or gouging of the work piece surface.

Captive fastener

A fastener system having a fastener and a fastener retention member is provided. The fastener includes a threaded portion, a head, and a shank portion extending therebetween. The threaded portion includes threads having a major diameter greater than a diameter of the shank portion. The fastener retention member includes a body member having an axial opening therethrough, and at least one shank engagement member protruding into the axial opening of the body member. The shank engagement members define a diameter smaller than the major diameter of the threads of the threaded portion of the fastener. The shank portion of the fastener is received in the axial opening of the fastener retention member and is axially movable therein and trapped between a position where the head of the fastener abuts the fastener retention member and a position where the threaded portion of the fastener engages the shank engagement members.

Captive fastener member and system

A method for generating indicators relating to the condition of lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine. A set of variables relating to operation of the internal combustion engine serve as proxy variables for brake mean effective pressure developed by the internal combustion engine. Operation of an engine is monitored to develop values for the proxy variables. Soot being added to the lubricating oil from the developed values and accumulated to provide an estimate of total soot in the lubricating oil. Lubricating oil temperature is periodically monitored and a history of the lubricating oil temperature measurements is kept to allow generation therefrom of an estimate of shear of the lubricating oil. Accumulated estimate of soot is kept as a distance remaining until the lubricating oil becomes unsuitable for continued use in the internal combustion engine. Similarly, estimated shear is expressed as a distance until the lubricating oil is to be replaced. Additional factors may be monitored and similarly used to determine the distance until an oil change is required, including the dielectric coefficient of the lubricating oil, temperature history of the oil and total cylinder firing events.

A fastener retention system having a retention member with an opening therein, a flange protruding outwardly from the retention member, a plurality of resilient work piece engagement tabs protruding outwardly from retention member, and a shank disposed in the retention member opening and engaged by a plurality of fastener engagement tabs, whereby the retention member is axially retained about the shank.

Captive fastener member and system for joining two work pieces

A threaded fastener having a threaded shaft with a head disposed on a portion thereof and a deflectable flange protruding outwardly from the shaft at or near the head. The deflectable flange has a generally concave surface facing toward a leading end of the fastener shaft. A protuberance is disposed on the shaft and spaced apart axially from the generally concave surface of the deflectable flange to limit compression of a fixture clamped between the fastener head and a work surface.
