Among other things, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to communicating via an avatar embedded in an email message. In some embodiments, the avatar can provide information associated with the email message.

Interactive avatar in messaging environment

A sender sends an email message to a receiver. The message includes an avatar representing the sender. Upon receiving the message, if the receiver has a question related to the message, the receiver sends the question to the sender via the avatar. After receiving the question, the avatar remote server device correlates the question with the message through a MSG-ID associated with the receiver or avatar. The avatar remote server device parses and analyzes the question and then searches mailboxes, agendas, previous answers, toDoLists, folders, resumes, and/or address books of the sender to find a corresponding answer for the question. Then, the avatar remote server device provides the answer to the receiver via the avatar. Alternatively, upon receiving the question, the avatar remote server device sends a notification to the sender. If the sender has an online connectivity, the sender provides the answer to the receiver via the avatar.

A method and system of broadcasting a regional television channel to a user. A digital subscriber line access multiplex (DSLAM) receives a broadcast of multicast channels intended for delivery to the user. The multicast channels include national channels and a regional channel. The DSLAM broadcasts the multicast channels to the user and receives a regional channel control signal specifying a broadcast during a specified period of time of the regional channel instead of a national channel previously scheduled to be broadcast to the user during the specified period of time. The DSLAM switches the multicast channels broadcasted to the user during the specified period of time from the national channel to the regional channel such that the regional channel is in a specific channel slot of the national channel during the specified period of time during broadcasting the multicast channels to the user.

Providing a regional channel in a digital broadcast environment

An approach for generating optimal itineraries based on network connectivity is presented. A computer receives a first message from which a current position of a vehicle on a trip, destination, a service being requested for a mobile device in the vehicle, service providers and network(s) are extracted. Network connectivity measures are retrieved and signal qualities in respective cells are determined based on the network connectivity measures. Based on the signal qualities, an itinerary is determined as paths and a hop indicating a position on one of the paths at which a connectivity change from a first to a second service provider is to occur. A response to the first message indicates the itinerary. Sending the response results in the mobile device making the connectivity change when the vehicle reaches the position indicated by the hop.

Generating optimal itineraries based on network connectivity

An approach for generating optimal itineraries is presented. As a response to a first message sent to a remote computer system by a global positioning device transported by a vehicle on a trip, the device receives a second message indicating optimal itineraries of the trip. The device receives a selection of an optimal itinerary indicating a path, a hop, an updated service provider to provide a service to a mobile device transported by the vehicle, and an updated network for providing the service. The device detects the vehicle at a position indicated by the hop, and in response, generates a third message indicating the updated service provider and the updated network. The global positioning device sends the third message to the mobile device and as a result, the mobile device makes a connectivity change to the updated service provider and/or to the updated network.

A method and system for generating alerts based on predicted wireless connection losses. A message is received that includes a first position of a mobile device, an indication of a service being provided to the mobile device via a wireless connection provided by a first bearer, and an mobile device identifier. A direction and speed of the mobile device is received. An amount of time elapsing before the mobile device moves to a second position at which the mobile device experiences a loss of the wireless connection via the first bearer is predicted. An alert that indicates that the loss is occurring in the amount of time is generated. The alert is sent to the mobile device as a response to the message.

Generating alerts based on predicted wireless connection losses

A computer-implemented method, system, and computer program product for administering a peer-to-peer file sharing computer network. The method includes: maintaining a reference associating a particular shared file with a seeder in a community of peers and a number of seeders in the community; and registering a second peer as a second seeder of the particular shared file, if a first seeder in the community of peers has informed the peers of a termination of the availability of a file seeding of the particular shared file. The system includes means for performing the steps of the method. The computer program product includes computer program instructions for carrying out the steps of the method.

Method and system of administrating a peer-to-peer file sharing network

A method of building an interactive display related to TV programs in an internet protocol television (IPTV) environment includes parsing a plurality of TV programs provided in an IPTV environment for display to a user. The step of parsing includes capturing an image in each TV program, identifying video content in each captured image, interpreting the video content, capturing audio data, identifying an audio content in each captured audio data, and interpreting the audio content for each captured audio data. The method further includes the steps of identifying a selected TV program by the user; determining a correlation level between the interpreted video and audio content of the selected TV program and the interpreted video and audio content of each of the other TV programs; determining TV programs other than the selected TV program; and building and presenting a mosaic display on a TV display including the selected TV program.

Intelligent TV mosaic for IPTV

An electronic mail management system and method is disclosed comprising a control table for storing information related to sent and received messages of an email client, wherein the stored information relates to header fields of the received and sent messages and, in particular, to fields as defined in Internet Engineering Task Force standard RFC 2822. The system monitors the control table to identify received messages which relate to sent messages and also to identify sent messages which have not been responded to by the recipients of the sent message. The email client displays received messages stored in the control table hierarchically according to the related sent message and also displays the status of the messages in the control table.

Electronic mail management system

System enabling the cancellation of previously-sent e-mail comprising a data transmission network, wherein a plurality of users are connected to the network, each user being able as a sender to forward an e-mail over the network to at least another user as a recipient connected to the network, and wherein a message transfer agent MTA is associated with each user for sending the e-mail when the user acts as a sender and delivering the e-mail when the user acts as a recipient. Each MTA includes a cancel mailbox for transmitting a cancellation message to the recipient(s) when the user associated with the MTA is a sender wanting to cancel a previously-sent e-mail or for managing the cancellation of e-mails in the mailbox of the user associated with the MTA upon receiving the cancellation message from the sender when this user is a recipient.

Method and system enabling the cancellation of a previously-sent E-mail message

The invention provides a retransmission manager for use in a digital content delivery system, wherein the delivery system comprises a plurality of user devices, a set of content providers for delivering digital content to the user devices in the form of bursts of content through a source unit. The retransmission manager is connected to the user devices to receive notifications therefrom, each notification received from a given user device identifying a burst received by the given user device which is candidate for retransmission. The retransmission manager selects a set of bursts among the bursts identified by the notifications based on the amount of available bandwidth at the source unit and on negotiation messages received from at least one of the plurality of content providers, the negotiation message being related to at least one burst identified in the notifications and including, for each burst, a negotiation parameter. The retransmission manager then sends a request for retransmission of the selected bursts to the source unit.
