A system for characterizing a visor mounted to a helmet, the helmet having at least one projector for directing light to reflect off the visor to image to an eye position, is described. The system includes a mounting structure configured to mount an image detector to the helmet, the image detector arranged to detect an image at the eye position, and a controller. The controller is configured to provide a test pattern, receive a detected image from the image detector disposed at an eye position based on the test pattern, compare the detected image to the test pattern to determine a characterization error corresponding to a distortion of the detected image, determine a correction function to correct the distortion, and correct for the distortion based on the correction function.

In field visor characterization for visor projected displays

A system is disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the system includes a display device including a display substrate configured to display at least one image. In embodiments, the display substrate includes a plurality of pixels, wherein at least one pixel of the plurality of pixels includes a plurality of sub-pixels. The system further includes a sub-pixel drive communicatively coupled to the display substrate. In embodiments, the sub-pixel drive is configured to generate one or more control signals configured to selectively modify a sub-pixel luminance level of at least one sub-pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels in order to adjust one or more characteristics of the display substrate.

An apparatus for providing an optical display includes an optical substrate for propagating light received from a light source, a first set of one or more switchable diffractive elements in the substrate, and a second set of one or more switchable diffractive elements in the substrate. Each diffractive element in the second set corresponds to a diffractive element in the first set. Each of the diffractive elements in the first and second sets is configured to switch between on and off states. One of the states is for diffracting light and the other state for allowing light to pass through. Each of the first set of diffractive elements is configured to diffract the light at an angle for propagation in the substrate. Each of the second set of diffractive elements is configured to diffract the light for display.

An exit pupil locator tool including a connector and a target. The connector is configured to engage an optics component that defines an optics axis of a helmet mounted display. The target includes a reticle, a first aperture, and a second aperture and defines a tool axis that is arranged at an oblique tool angle relative to the optics axis.

A display distortion correction system and method is for a worn display. The worn display includes an image display. The display distortion correction system includes an eye tracking system configured to provide an eye parameter related to viewing the image display, a memory for storing a distortion map, and a processor configured to provide a distortion map. The processor is configured to provide a first test pattern on the image display, record a first set of eye positions associated with viewing the first test pattern, and provide the distortion map in response to the first set of eye positons.

Dynamic distortion mapping in a worn display

A worn display, includes a projector and at least one wearable diffraction grating member. The member includes an input end for receiving an image from a projector and a combiner end for receiving light from a scene and providing the image received at the input end and the light received from the outside scene to the user. The worn display can be used in aircraft applications to provide guidance information to a pilot. The diffraction grating member can have periscopic characteristics.

Worn display system and method without requiring real time tracking for boresight precision

A reconfigurable handheld device includes a housing; a processor disposed within the housing; and a display system coupled to the processor and including a display area. The display system is configured to selectively provide one of a first image viewable via the display system at a normal viewing distance; a second image viewable via the display system proximate at least one eye of a user; and a third image generated by the display system and viewable via a remote surface.

A worn display, such as a head worn display, includes a projector and a periscopic system configured to be wearable. The periscopic system includes at least one diffraction grating member. The member includes an input end for receiving an image from a projector and a combiner end for receiving light from a scene and providing the image received at the input end and the light received from the outside scene to the user. The head worn display can be used in aircraft applications to provide guidance information to a pilot.
