An actuator assembly that includes an actuator device. The actuator device includes a tubular housing with a first end and a second end, the tubular housing defining a storage chamber containing a pyrotechnic material to produce gas. At least one electrical connection is coupled to the first end, the electrical connection in reaction initiating communication with the pyrotechnic material. An actuator housing that partially encompasses the tubular housing, wherein an outer surface of the actuator housing comprises a hexagon shaped portion that extends along a longitudinal direction of the actuator housing. An assembly housing at least partially encompasses the actuator device, wherein an inner surface of the assembly housing comprises an engaging surface portion that extends along a longitudinal direction of the assembly housing that corresponds to and slidably engages with the hexagon shaped portion of the actuator housing.

A gas generator includes a case enclosing a combustion chamber containing at least one pyrotechnic charge, a diffusion chamber, and a chamber for storing a material releasable from the chamber during combustion of the charge, to change state endothermically under the effect of gas coming from this combustion, then be evacuated via the diffusion chamber. The material is a liquid stored at atmospheric pressure. The chamber has at least one inlet opening, and a series of outlet openings. The outlet openings are arranged within a wall separating the chamber from the diffusion chamber. The charge and the combustion and diffusion chambers are dimensioned such that during combustion, at least one portion of gas flow generated by the charge opens at least the inlet opening and penetrates into the chamber provoking the escape of the material via the outlet openings, then its endothermic change in state, mainly in the diffusion chamber.

A gas generator includes two reserves of reactive gases, an ignition device capable of being triggered in order to open lids of the reserves and initiating combustion of the reactive gases, and an orifice for letting out combustion gas towards the outside. The gas reserve, a device for diffusing the combustion gas towards the outside and the second gas reserve are successively positioned along a longitudinal direction. A guiding wall is provided in the reserve for guiding the pressure wave generated by the device up to the lid in order to open this first lid. The diffusing device includes a conduit for guiding the pressure wave from the first lid to the second lid so as to open the latter, and which communicates with the orifice.

Gas generator with reactive gases

A pyrotechnic gas generator intended for motor-vehicle safety includes a combustion chamber of cylindrical or approximately cylindrical shape. An initiator is located within the combustion chamber and is associated with at least one solid pyrotechnic charge. A diffusion chamber communicates with the combustion chamber and receives gases generated by the pyrotechnic charge and transfers the gases to atmosphere via at least one evacuation opening. The diffusion chamber extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the combustion chamber, in the extension of one of its end faces. The diffusion chamber is also of generally cylindrical or approximately cylindrical shape, but with a cross section that is less than that of the combustion chamber. The diffusion chamber is devoid of structure for filtering the gases that pass therethrough.

An inflatable curtain airbag, or airbag assembly, can include a plurality of inflatable cushion segments that are able to selectively fluidly communicate with an inflation gas delivery channel. The inflatable curtain airbag, or airbag assembly, can further include a valving panel that has a separate valving portion associated with each inflatable cushion segment. Each valving portion can allow fluid communication between the inflatable cushion segment and the inflation gas delivery channel when in an open configuration and can prevent fluid communication between the inflatable cushion segment and the inflation gas delivery channel when in a closed configuration.

Curtain airbags with isolated chambers and construction methods

A gas generator for a safety device for a motor vehicle, comprises at least two distinct chambers which communicate with each other through at least one opening or nozzle. A first chamber is isolated from the outside. A second chamber or 'diffusion' chamber is able to receive gases generated by the combustion of a solid pyrotechnical charge placed in the first chamber, and to discharge them towards the outside. The solid charge is a mixture consisting of at least one oxidizing charge and a reducing charge, the oxygen balance of which is equilibrated. A heat generator is provided which generates sufficient heat for triggering and sustaining the combustion of the charge without any other interaction, notably of the chemical type, between the heat generator and the charge.
