An apparatus, method, and a computer program product are provided for improving the translation quality of text when a text sequence, such as a sentence, includes a parenthetical part delimited by a separator or separators, such as parentheses, quotation marks, or the like. The apparatus applies an algorithm which is configured for using several methodologies in sequence to identify an optimum position for insertion of the translated parenthetical in the main part of the translated text sequence. As a result, the translated parenthetical is more likely to be correctly delimited by separators and more likely to be correctly placed in the main part than in a conventional translation system which automatically translates each sentence as a whole.

Method to preserve the place of parentheses and tags in statistical machine translation systems

A system is described herein to broadcast real time information to a particular area. An area of interest is defined by a geographic locale and a remote station monitors activity within the area of interest The remote station includes a monitoring component that monitors events within the area of interest. A protocol converter receives data from the monitoring component to invert data received into one or more standards or protocols. A broadcast element receives data from the protocol converter and emits data within a broadcast radius that is proximate to the area of interest.

Apparatus for broadcasting real time information to GPS systems

A system for switching on an electrical device includes a startup circuit for an associated electrical device. The electrical device has a main power circuit comprising first and second paths and a main switch for selectively connecting the electrical device with an associated power source. The startup circuit uses a pulse of electromagnetic energy transmitted wirelessly from an associated remote control device to form a third path, whereby power is supplied from the associated power source for actuating the main switch.

Energy preserving wireless remote control system

A method for identifying documents for enriching a statistical translation tool includes retrieving a source document which is responsive to a source language query that may be specific to a selected domain. A set of text segments is extracted from the retrieved source document and translated into corresponding target language segments with a statistical translation tool to be enriched. Target language queries based on the target language segments are formulated. Sets of target documents responsive to the target language queries are retrieved. The sets of retrieved target documents are filtered, including identifying any candidate documents which meet a selection criterion that is based on co-occurrence of a document in a plurality of the sets. The candidate documents, where found, are compared with the retrieved source document for determining whether any of the candidate documents match the source document. Matching documents can then be stored and used at their turn in a training phase for enriching the translation tool.

Method for building parallel corpora

A probabilistic clustering system is defined at least in part by probabilistic model parameters indicative of word counts, ratios, or frequencies characterizing classes of the clustering system. An association of one or more documents in the probabilistic clustering system is changed from one or more source classes to one or more destination classes. Probabilistic model parameters characterizing classes affected by the changed association are locally updated without updating probabilistic model parameters characterizing classes not affected by the changed association.

Hierarchical clustering with real-time updating

A document management system includes one or more document repositories for storing documents and a document notification and delivery service (DNDS) for detecting documents pertaining to subjects that are stored in the document repositories. A plurality of workflow modules subscribe to the DNDS to receive documents identified that pertain to subscribed subjects. At least two workflow modules produce documents that are published to the document repositories. Further, a first workflow module publishes to one of the document repositories a first document which is detected by the DNDS and which pertains to at least one subscribed subject of a second workflow module. Subsequent to the publication of the first document by the DNDS to the one of the document repositories, the DNDS delivers the first document to the second workflow module that operates independent from the first workflow module to produce a second document.

Integrating a document management system with a workflow system and method

A system and remote control device that controls an appliance, and obtains a desired function of the appliance, by invoking a remote procedure call in a remote server which will thereby actually control the appliance. The remote control device comprises a sensor; sensor responsive means for capturing information provided by the sensor, wherein the captured information at least contains parameters representative of the identification of the appliance, user-profile parameters, parameters representative of the address of the remote server, and a function name indicating the function to be performed by the appliance; marshalling means for encoding the captured information and for packaging the captured information into data in a remote procedure call format; and a transmitter for establishing a communication protocol with the remote server in order to transmit the packaged data to the remote server so that the remote server may execute the remote procedure call.
