A guide assembly for a switchgear assembly is provided. The guide assembly includes an elongated support member and a passage. The support member is coupled to and extends from a housing assembly rear sidewall. The support member extends in the circuit breaker assembly direction of travel. The passage is disposed on the circuit breaker assembly base and also extends in the circuit breaker assembly direction of travel. The support member is substantially aligned with the passage. In this configuration, as the circuit breaker assembly moves between a withdrawn position and an installed position, the support member moves between a first position, wherein the support member is not disposed in the passage, and a second position, wherein the support member is partially disposed in the passage. When the support member is in the second position, the support member bears a portion of the weight of the circuit breaker assembly base.

A system and method for measuring voltage of a medium to high voltage line conductor is disclosed. The system includes an electrical insulator having a surface and an edge, the surface having an opening therein to allow passage of a line conductor therethrough in a direction generally perpendicular to the surface. The system also includes first and second electrodes positioned about the opening on the surface of the electrical insulator and spaced apart from one another to provide a common capacitive divider signal indicative of a voltage potential of the line conductor.

An electrically insulated conductor connection assembly and a method for providing the same are provided. The electrically insulated conductor connection assembly includes first and second electrical conductors each comprising a body portion and an end portion. A fastening mechanism electrically and mechanically connects the end portions of the first electrical conductor to the end portion of the second electrical conductor, and an insulator overlays and electrically insulates the fastening mechanism. The end portions of the first and second electrical conductors and the fastening mechanism form a joint, which is structured to be fastenable and unfastenable. When the joint is fastened and the insulator is overlaying the fastening mechanism, the joint is electrically insulated.

A method monitors a vacuum interrupter for leakage or loss of vacuum. The vacuum interrupter includes a line side, a load side and separable contacts electrically connected therebetween. The line side has a line side voltage and the load side has a load side voltage. The method includes determining whether the separable contacts of the vacuum interrupter are intended to be open or closed, comparing the line side voltage to the load side voltage, and determining the leakage or the loss of vacuum when the separable contacts of the vacuum interrupter are intended to be open and when the load side voltage is within a predetermined amount of the line side voltage.

An interlock assembly for a circuit breaker housing assembly and a circuit breaker extraction device wherein the interlock assembly has a first and second component. The first component is coupled to a circuit breaker housing assembly and the second component is coupled to a circuit breaker extraction device. The first component includes a rail obstruction assembly that is structured to move between a first position, wherein the movable rail obstruction element blocks a circuit breaker wheel from traveling over a circuit breaker housing assembly rail, and a second position, wherein the movable rail obstruction element is spaced from the circuit breaker housing assembly rail so that a wheel may travel over the circuit breaker housing assembly rail. The second component is structured to engage the first component when the circuit breaker extraction device is brought adjacent to the circuit breaker housing assembly and to move the movable rail obstruction element from the first position to the second position.

A circuit interrupter arc chute includes first and second support portions, an exit portion supported by the support portions, and a plurality of arc plates supported by the support portions. The exit portion has one or more vent openings. The arc plates have a first edge offset from the exit portion and an opposite second edge distal from the exit portion. A plurality of insulating dividing members are disposed between the arc plates. The members have a first edge proximate the exit portion and an opposite second edge distal from the exit portion. The second edge of the members extends beyond the arc plate first edges and toward the arc plate second edges. The first edge of the dividing members extends beyond the arc plate first edge and away from the arc plate second edge.

An improved electrical interrupter apparatus includes a stationary contact and a movable contact within an enclosed region, with the movable contact being operatively connected with a drive unit that employs a pull-to-close mechanism to engage the movable contact with the stationary contact. When the contacts are desired to be closed, the drive unit applies a tensile force to an elongated rod that extends between the drive unit and a crank mechanism, which converts the tensile force in the rod into a compressive force applied to the movable contact.

Protection is provided for servicing a distribution bus by grounding the line side of a circuit breaker through which the distribution bus is fed and then closing the circuit breaker. The trip unit of the circuit breaker includes logic, in addition to the normal protection logic, which opens the circuit breaker main contacts without delay if current is detected upon closing of the grounded circuit breaker. However, if the grounded circuit breaker has been closed for a selected period of time and then current is detected, the distribution bus is kept at zero potential by not operating the breaker. A breaker auxiliary switch with a mechanical delay provides the indication of the selected time interval after closing the circuit breaker.

A flexible shunt in the form of a flexible member made up of a stack of electrically conductive laminations each of a thickness of no more than about 0.002 inch (0.051 mm) has a moveable end secured by a moveable mount to a moveable contact support of an electric power switch for movement along a linear path. A fixed mount secures the fixed end of the flexible member to a fixed conductor termination spaced laterally from the moveable end along a neutral axis perpendicular to the linear path of the moveable end by an offset distance such that the installed length of the intermediate section between the fixed and moveable ends is less than the free length of the intermediate section. With this arrangement the stroke of the moveable end along the linear path can be up to at least &frac13; and even &frac12; of the free length of the intermediate section of the flexible member and with very low operating forces.

A compact power circuit breaker has a molded insulative casing providing the structural support and electrical isolation for the pole mechanisms mounted in cavities in the casing and the operating mechanism mounted to the front of the casing. A grounded barrier between the pole mechanisms and the operating mechanism protects the operator actuating push buttons controlling the operating mechanism and accessible through a molded insulative cover. Preferably, the grounded barrier is sandwiched between a rear section of the molded casing containing the pole cavities and a forward section to which the operating mechanism is secured. The grounded barrier is connected to an electrically conductive pan extending under the molded insulative casing which also houses electrically grounded linkages coupling the operating mechanism to the vacuum interrupters of the pole mechanisms. A vented air gap between the rear section of the molded insulative casing and the grounded barrier minimizes erosion of the molded insulative casing in the event of an arc penetrating the casings to the grounded barrier.

A linear actuator which includes a housing assembly, a shaft assembly disposed within the housing assembly, a plurality of flat magnets disposed within said housing about said shaft, and a structure to support the magnets. Because the magnets are flat magnets, the components that support the magnets may be machined with tolerances that virtually eliminate the air gap between the magnets and the support structures.
