The invention provides methods and compositions for precursors and for the synthesis of zeolites. The invention makes use of intimately homogeneous precursors which avoid the formation of a difficult to work with gel stage in zeolite formation. This allows for the synthesis of zeolite in a much shorter period of time and with much lower amounts of structure directing agents.

Colloidal compositions and methods of preparing same are provided. The colloidal compositions include a silicate and a metal dispersed therein. The colloidal compositions can further include a stabilizer, such as a quaternary amine, to enhance the and dispersion of the metal loading within the silicate. The colloidal compositions can be made such that the metal is dispersed within the silicate in a controlled manner.

Colloidal compositions and methods of preparing same

Disclosed are novel aqueous aluminum complex compositions and methods of making and using them. The novel compositions comprise very low halide content, even when made from aluminum chlorohydrate. The compositions find use in the production of zeolites, coatings, abrasives, binders, and refractories; and in the treatment of wastewater for example. The methods of making the novel compositions include passing a first aqueous aluminum complex composition through an anion exchange column or otherwise contacting the first composition with the anion exchange resin to provide a second aqueous aluminum complex composition that is different from the first aqueous aluminum complex composition. Also disclosed are methods of making zeolites and aqueous silica-alumina compositions from the novel aqueous aluminum complex compositions.

Polyaluminum salts and their uses in preparation of high-purity colloidal aluminum-silica composite particles and zeolites

Described herein are methods and compositions for zeolite synthesis. The methods and compositions involve modifying a colloidal silica sol with a metal compound and in the presence of a structure directing agent, followed by heating to form a zeolite. The methods and compositions result in rapid zeolite formation, even at reduced concentrations of structure directing agent.

A method of preparing a particulate material comprising the steps of adding silicic acid solution, optionally doped with aluminum, optionally added to a slurry of pre-existing nanoparticles at a neutral to slightly acidic pH of no more than seven, and at a temperature of about 20&#xb0; to 30&#xb0; C. This yields a polysilicate particulate dispersion. Then, the pH of the dispersion is raised to greater than seven, to stabilize/reinforce particles of the particulate dispersion. Optionally, the particles may be dried, and have increased porosity and surface area.

Production and use of polysilicate particulate materials

The present invention provides a method of recycling a water-based wire saw cutting slurry waste fluid comprising abrasive particles and waste solids in a water-based carrier. The method comprises the steps of (a) separating the waste fluid into a first fraction and a second fraction, the first fraction comprising recovered abrasive particles, and the second fraction comprising waste solids and a portion of the water-based carrier; (b) optionally, separating the second fraction to separate the waste solids from the water-based carrier to form a waste solids portion and a recovered water-based carrier portion; (c) optionally, drying the first fraction from step (a) and separating the resulting dried abrasive particles from smaller waste particles to produce a purified recovered abrasive fraction; and (d) suspending particles of the first fraction from step (a), the purified recovered abrasive fraction from step (c), or both, in a suspending medium comprising at least a portion of the recovered water-based carrier from step (b), to generate a recycled water-based wire saw cutting slurry.

A method of improving the removal of an investment casting shell surrounding a metallic article. The shell is made from the deposit of layers refractory slurry and stucco onto a pattern. The shell contains, after firing, an amount of an alkali metal oxide or an alkaline earth metal oxide sufficient to reduce the strength of the shell. By this invention, after firing of the shell and pouring of the molten metallic part into the shell, the shell is hydrated to further reduce the strength of the shell, to facilitate its removal from the metallic part.
