A brake cylinder includes a pressure medium actuated brake piston delimiting a brake chamber and connected to a brake piston rod. The brake piston, together with the piston rod, swivels into positions tilted from a center axis of the brake cylinder during an actuation stroke. The brake piston is rigid and has a guide surface in the shape of a spherical surface of an imaginary sphere on its radially outer peripheral surface. The guide surface is guided along a radially inner cylinder wall of the brake cylinder with the center of the sphere lying on the center axis of the brake cylinder. The brake piston further has at least one elastic sealing element radially displaceable in a radially outer annular groove of the brake piston and delimiting an annular space together with a groove base of the annular groove on its side facing away from the radially inner cylinder wall. The annular space is fluidically coupled to the brake chamber such that contact pressure of the outer diameter of the sealing element against the radially inner cylinder wall of the brake cylinder depends on the pressure in the brake chamber.

A combined service brake and spring brake cylinder for vehicle brake systems, includes a service brake piston and a spring brake piston. A sealing assembly is located in a central bore of a partition and seals off the interior of the service brake cylinder from the interior of the spring brake cylinder. The radial outer peripheral surface of the spring brake piston has an additional sealing assembly for sealing off a spring chamber. At least one of the sealing assemblies contains a guide ring that guides the spring brake piston rod in the bore of the partition, or the spring brake piston in the spring brake cylinder. The guide ring consists of a more rigid material than that of at least one sealing element. The sealing element consists of an elastomer that is connected to the guide ring by original forming methods such as injection molding or transfer molding.

A fastening device for externally fastening cables or lines to housings, especially to the housing of brake cylinders, includes a fastening pin that can be locked in a breather of the housing. A connecting channel is configured in the fastening pin via which channel, in the locked state, the interior of the housing communicates with the atmosphere.

For the assembly of a spring-type brake cylinder, a rear cylinder is provided with a preloaded spring, with a rear piston and with an intermediate flange. Then, a front cylinder, in which a front piston with an actuating rod for a brake element of the braking system is movably arranged, is fixed to the rear cylinder, so that the rear cylinder and the front cylinder are in contact with one another by means of a sliding rod passing through the intermediate flange. As a result, the front piston is displaceable by the rear piston.
