A control circuitry () and a method for controlling a bi-directional switch () is provided. The bi-directional switch () having a control terminal () for receiving a control voltage () to control an on state and an off state of the bi-directional switch () and at least one semiconductor switch in a bi-directional main current path. The control circuitry () comprises an energy storage element (), a coupling means () to couple the energy storage element () to a supply voltage to charge the energy storage element (), and a control circuit () configured to receive power from the energy storage element () and pendent of the supply voltage when the emergency storage element () is not coupled to the supply voltage. The coupling means () is configured for only coupling the energy storage element () to the supply voltage when the bi-directional switch () is in the off state.

Control circuitry and method for controlling a bi-directional switch system, a bi-directional switch, a switching matrix and a medical stimulator

A power supply system () is provided which comprises a first input (), an output (), a DC-DC converter (), a rectifying circuit () and a voltage limiter (). An AC voltage is received by the first input. Power is supplied to a load () via the output. The DC-DC converter comprises a second input () which is capacitively coupled to the first input, and the DC-DC converter provides power to the output. The rectifying circuit is capacitively coupled to the first input and is arranged between the first input and the output. The rectifying circuit provides a rectified output voltage to the output. The voltage limiter is coupled to the output and limits the rectified voltage to a predefined voltage.

Capacitively coupled power supply system

A control circuitry and a method for controlling a bi-directional switch is provided. The bi-directional switch having a control terminal for receiving a control voltage to control an on state and an off state of the bi-directional switch and at least one semiconductor switch in a bi-directional main current path. The control circuitry comprises an energy storage element, a coupling means to couple the energy storage element to a supply voltage to charge the energy storage element, and a control circuit configured to receive power from the energy storage element and configured to supply the control voltage having a voltage level being independent of the supply voltage when the energy storage element is not coupled to the supply voltage. The coupling means is configured for only coupling the energy storage element to the supply voltage when the bi-directional switch is in the off state.

A DC voltage converter, comprising: a multi-ratio capacitive converter; a linear voltage regulator in series with the multi-ratio capacitive converter; and a controller; the controller arranged to control the ratio of the multi-ratio capacitive converter dependent upon the voltage difference across the linear voltage regulator.

Voltage converter

An inductive component for a DC/DC converter is made by transferring a copper track () from a copper substrate () to a first ferrite plate (). A second ferrite plate () is attached by glue to the first ferrite plate so that the track () forms an inductor coil sandwiched between the two ferrite plates (). One of the plates has holes () in registration with the terminals of the coil, and these holes are filled with solder () to provide externally accessible contacts.

Inductive components for DC/DC converters and methods of manufacture thereof

A load line regulated switched-mode power converter supplies an output voltage and an output current to a load. The power converter includes an inductor, a switch coupled to the inductor, a first impedance, a second impedance, and a power converter controller. The power converter controller includes a first sense circuit to obtain momentary information on a first current which flows through the first impedance, and which is related to the output current. A difference between a zero load voltage and the output voltage is determined to obtain a difference level. A second sense circuit supplies further information on a second current which flows through the second impedance, and which is related to the first current. An integrator integrates a difference between the further information and the difference level to obtain a correction signal. A switch controller receives the difference level, the momentary information and the correction signal to control the switch to obtain a substantially zero correction signal in a steady state.

Switch mode power converter

A transmitter comprises a power amplifier which has an amplifier power-supply input and an output to supply a transmission signal with an output power. A power supply has power supply outputs to supply a first power supply voltage and a second power supply voltage. A switching circuit is arranged between the power supply outputs and the amplifier power-supply input. A controller has an input to receive a power change command to control: first the switching circuit to supply the first power supply voltage to the amplifier power-supply input, and the power supply to vary a level of the second power supply voltage, the level of the second power supply voltage being lower or higher than a level of the first power supply voltage if the power change command indicates that the output power has to decrease or increase, respectively, and secondly the switching circuit to supply the second power supply voltage to the amplifier power-supply input.

Power saving in a transmitter

A transmitter comprises a power amplifier (PA) with a power supply input (PI) and an output (PAO) to supply a transmission signal (Vo) with an output power (Po). A power supply (PS) has power supply outputs (PSO, PSO) to supply a first power supply voltage (PV) with a first level and a second power supply voltage (PV) with a second level, higher than the first level. A switching circuit (SC) is arranged between the power supply outputs (PSOI, PSQ) and the power supply input (PI) to supply a selected one of the first power supply voltage (PV) or the second power supply voltage (PV) to the power amplifier (PA). A controller (CO) supplies a control signal to the switching circuit (SC) in response to a first power change command (PC) indicating a first desired level of the output power (Po), to supply the first power supply voltage (PV) to the power supply input (PI). The controller (CO) supplies the control signal to the switching circuit (SC) in response to a second power change command (PC) indicating a second desired level of t:output power (Po) and succeeding the first power change command (PC), to supply either the first power supply voltage (PV) or the second power supply voltage (PV) to the amplifier power supply input (PI) depending on values of said first desired level and said second desired level. The controller (CO) controls the power supply (PS) to vary a level of at least one of the power supply voltages (PV, PV) to always have available one of the power supply voltages with a level suitable for increasing the output power (P) substantially instantaneously.

A transmitter comprises a power amplifier (PA) which has an amplifier powersupply input (PI) and an output (PAO) to supply a transmission signal (Vo) with an output power (Po). A power supply (PS) has power supply outputs (PSOPSO) to supply a first power supply voltage (PV) and a second power supply voltage (PV). A switching circuit(SC) is arranged between the power supply outputs (PSOPSO) and the amplifier powersupply input (PI). A controller (CO) has an input to receive a power change command (PC) to control: first (i) the switching circuit (SC) to supply the first power supply voltage (PV) to the amplifier power-supply input (PI), and the power supply (PS) to vary a level of the second power supply voltage (PV), the level of the second power supply voltage (PV) being lower or higher than a level of the first power supply voltage(PV) if the power change command (PC) indicates that the output power has to decrease or increase, respectively, and secondly (ii) the switching circuit (SC) to supply the second power supply voltage (PV) to the amplifier power-supply input (PI).

An electronic circuit comprising an amplifier includes an output terminal (OUT) for supplying an output signal (V ) to a load, the amplifier comprising an output transistor (N , P ) having a first main terminal coupled to a supply voltage terminal (V , V ) of the amplifier, a second main terminal coupled to the output terminal (OUT), and a control terminal. In order to avoid that the output transistor (N , P ) can enter its linear state which would cause the amplifier to act unacceptably slow for some purposes, the electronic circuit further comprises a controller adapted to prevent the output transistor (N , P ) to enter its linear state whereby the controller is arranged for reducing a control voltage (V ) between the control terminal and the first main terminal when an output voltage (V ) between the second main terminal and the first main terminal is below a defined level.
