An electronically commutated external-rotor motor has an internal stator (), having a stator lamination stack () and a winding arrangement () associated therewith. the latter, as well as a central opening () of the stator lamination stack (), in which opening a bearing tube () is arranged. The motor further has a permanent-magnet external rotor () separated from the stator lamination stack () by a magnetically effective air gap (), which rotor has a shaft () that is journalled in the bearing tube (). First and second rolling bearings () are arranged at a distance from one another in the bearing tube (). The first rolling bearing (), adjacent the rotor hub, is a floating bearing, while the second rolling bearing (), near the shaft end () remote from the hub (), is braced with one side against a shoulder () provided in the bearing tube (). A compression spring () urges the two bearings toward one another, so that they serve as both an axial bearing and a radial bearing for the motor, thereby providing improved durability and longer service life.

External rotor motor

An apparatus may include a heat exchanger and an equalizing vessel for equalizing changes in coolant volume. The heat exchanger may include an inflow for delivering coolant to the heat exchanger and an outflow for discharging coolant from the heat exchanger. The equalizing vessel may be closed off by a flexible membrane that follows changes in volume of the coolant. The equalizing vessel may include a first chamber that is in liquid communication with the inflow of the heat exchanger and a second chamber that is in liquid communication with the outflow of the heat exchanger. A filter may also be provided to filter the coolant.

Apparatus including a heat exchanger and equalizing vessel

An arrangement for conveying fluids has a fluid pump () having a rotatably journaled pump wheel () that is joined to a first permanent magnet () and an electronically commutated internal-rotor motor () having a stator () and a rotor (), as well as a shaft () associated with the latter, which shaft is journaled rotatably relative to the stator () . The arrangement also has a second permanent magnet () joined nonrotatably to the rotor () , which magnet coacts with the first permanent magnet () to serve as a magnetic coupling. A separating can () hermetically separates the first permanent magnet () arranged inside the separating can, from the second permanent magnet () arranged outside the separating can. A fan wheel () mounted on the motor shaft, provides cooling air.

Arrangement for conveying fluids

A motor structure resistant to liquid intrusion features two modules, the first having an electronically commutated external-rotor motor (), which motor comprises an internal stator () that is arranged on a bearing tube () and is separated by a first air gap () from an external rotor (), which latter comprises a rotor cup () that is open at one end and is joined at its other end to a shaft () that is journalled in the bearing tube (), further having a permanent-magnet arrangement (), arranged at the open end of the rotor cup (), for magnetic interaction with a second permanent-magnet rotor (), forming part of the second module. The first module is separated from that second rotor () by a second air gap and forms therewith a magnetic coupling (), so that a rotation of the permanent-magnet arrangement () brings about a rotation of that second rotor (). A hermetic separation of the two modules is accomplished using a non-ferromagnetic separating element () arranged in the second air gap. The second module can safely be used to handle liquid, e.g. as a pump.

Arrangement with an electronically commutated external rotor motor

A method of rapidly assembling the rotor () of an external-rotor motor () onto a bearing support tube () and in a predetermined axial position relative to the latter, includes the steps of: beginning at a rotor cup portion () of the rotor (), mounting on a rotor shaft (): a compression spring (), a retaining washer (), and a plurality of rolling bearings (); then pressing into the bearing support tube (), by means of a pressing-in force (K), the rotor (), with the elements mounted thereon, the compression spring () being compressed so that the rotor cup presses the washer () into the tube (); subsequently removing the pressing-in force (K), and displacing the rotor shaft () by means of the compression spring () within the bearings () so that the rotor () assumes the desired predetermined axial position, relative to the tube ().

External rotor motor and method for assembling such a motor

An external rotor motor, suitable for driving a cooling fan, has a structure which facilitates automated assembly with proper angular registration. The rotor has a central shaft which is rotatably supported inside a bearing support tube having a tapered outer surface formed with a circumferential stop and longitudinal guide grooves. An inner stator structure is located radially between the bearing support tube and the rotor. The stator has an internal recess containing a securing ring or disk with inwardly extending tabs. During assembly of the inner stator onto the bearing support tube, the tabs slide in the guide grooves, then bend to form barbs which engage into the outer surface of the bearing support tube, thereby securing the stator on the bearing support tube in a predefined angular orientation. The circumferential stop assures insertion of the bearing support tube to the correct depth.
