The invention relates to a device for conditioning the atmosphere when testing engines, comprising an inlet duct connected to an engine intake, an outlet duct connected to the exhaust of the engine, a communication duct that connects the inlet duct to the outlet duct, a bypass valve in the inlet duct, a super-charging turbo assembly in the inlet duct, a heat exchanger in the outlet duct, and a turbocharger after the heat exchanger. The device further comprises a first three-way valve that connects the inlet duct to the outlet duct, an on/off valve in the outlet duct, a second three-way valve in the outlet duct, a control valve in a duct that connects the outlet duct to the atmosphere, and a section of the outlet duct that connects the exchanger to the communication duct.

The invention relates to an atmosphere conditioning device for testing engines, comprising an inflow conduit connected to an engine admission, an outflow conduit connected to the exhaust of the engine and expelling exhaust gases, a communication conduit which communicates the inflow conduit with the outflow conduit, a supercharging turbogenerator comprising a turbine in the inflow conduit, a bypass valve which diverts the air flow that circulates towards the turbine, a heat regenerator consisting of heat exchangers in the inflow and outflow conduits, connected by the same heat transfer fluid circuit, a bypass valve in the outflow conduit together with the heat exchanger thereof, a heat exchanger in the outflow conduit downstream from the heat regenerator, and a turbocompressor downstream from the heat exchanger.

Device for atmosphere conditioning for testing combustion engines, and associated method and use

The invention relates to a unit for simulating the pressure and temperature conditions of an air flow drawn in by a reciprocating internal combustion engine () at a height above sea level, corresponding to the operating height of said reciprocating internal combustion engine (). According to the invention, the unit comprises at least: (a) a radial inward-flow turbine () for expanding an air flow towards the pressure and temperature of the air drawn in by the reciprocating internal combustion engine; (b) a first container () and (c) a second container () connected to the first container () by means of at least a connection pipe () in order to balance the pressure between the two containers; (d) a centrifugal compressor (); and (e) a vacuum pump () for maintaining a pressure equal to the pressure of the air flow drawn in by the reciprocating internal combustion engine (). The invention also relates to the use of said unit for simulating the pressure and temperature conditions of the air drawn in by a reciprocating internal combustion engine.

Electrical resistances to carry out heating of air necessary for the combustion process of an engine, each of said resistance being in continuous tape form, with a pronounced coiled trajectory so that the resistance is distributed uniformly in an orifice for the passage of air established in a support and has its larger faces located in imaginary planes parallel to the axis of said orifice so that the electrical resistance presents its front rim to the passage of the air with a minimum loss of head, while presenting a wide contact surface to the air. The resistance is fastened to the support in arched recesses defined in diametrically opposed areas of said support, with the interposition of respective ceramic insulators being connected to ground by one of its ends and by its other end to the electricity supply cable.
