A method for operating a data processing system to determine the operational parameters of a communication system between an REC and an RE that utilizes a CPRI data link for communication. The data processing system is synchronized with the CPRI frames and determines a plurality of CPRI frame characteristics from the CPRI frames by examining a plurality of predetermined locations in the CPRI frames. The plurality of CPRI frame characteristics for one or more of the CPRI frames, and a first model of the communication system are used to generate a first broadcast frame that would be generated by the one or more CPRI frames if the first model accurately described the communication system. The first broadcast frame is tested to determine if the first broadcast frame is consistent with the first model. If the broadcast frame is inconsistent, a new model is chosen and the process repeated.

Method and apparatus for determining the configuration of a cellular transmission system

A method for operating a computer to determine the operational parameters of an LTE communication system includes an REC and an RE that communicate with one another over a data link utilizing CPRI frames that are translated into LTE frames by the RE is disclosed. The method includes synchronizing the data processing system with the CPRI frames. The computer then determines a plurality of CPRI frame characteristics from the CPRI frames by examining a plurality of predetermined locations in the CPRI frames. The CPRI frame characteristics, a CPRI frame, and a model of the LTE communication system, are used to generate a first LTE frame that would be generated by that CPRI frame if the model accurately described the LTE communication system. The first LTE frame is then tested to determine if it is consistent with the model. The process is repeated until a consistent model is found.

An apparatus that includes a base-band input port and a processor and a method for operating the same are disclosed. The base-band input port receives digital base-band communications including a plurality of communication channels utilized in communications between an RF module and a plurality of user equipment (UE) in a cell serviced by that RF module. The processor demodulates specific channels in the digital base-band communications and extracts therefrom information specifying a unique identity for each of the UEs and a temporary identification used for communicating with that UE. The processor also extracts scheduling information identifying when one of the UEs is scheduled to upload information to the RF module and the communication channels over which the information is to be uploaded. The processor does not demodulate others of the communication channels.

Cell monitor system for 4G cellular networks

A system that tracks a mobile transmitter within a communication system is disclosed. The mobile transmitter transmits in one or more predetermined communication slots, the communication slots being dynamically assigned by a system node in the communication system. The tracking system includes at least three uplink probes spatially separated from one another, each uplink probe measuring transmissions in each of the communication slots as a function of time. A cell monitor monitors downlink scheduling transmissions from the system node directed to the mobile transmitter, the scheduling transmissions specifying a time and communication slot to be utilized by the mobile transmitter in a subsequent transmission. A correlator receives the measured transmissions and the monitored downlink scheduling transmissions. The correlator uses the monitored downlink scheduling transmissions and the measured transmissions to determine a time at which a transmission from the mobile transmitter was detected at each of the uplink probes.

Passive uplink time difference of arrival positioning and tracking system

A source host comprising a processing resource that supports a kernel space and a user space. A socket layer is supported by the kernel space and allows a measurement application residing in the user space to instruct a protocol layer to form a plurality of UDP test packets for transmission, from the source host, to a destination node in a communications network. The plurality of test packets employ source-based routing and an alternative congestion control algorithm is implemented by the protocol layer to that supported by the communications network.

Method of forming protocol data units, protocol data units and protocol data unit generation apparatus

In a method of communicating between layers of a protocol stack, message data are generated for communicating between a first layer and a second layer of the protocol stack. The message data are incorporated into a data unit by providing an opaque object within the data unit, conforming to a data structure definition supporting extendible schemas, the opaque object including the message data.
