The invention relates to photosensitive compositions, which can be developed positively. Traditional compositions have either inadequate photosensitivity or they are not appropriate for use on the copper surfaces, for example of circuit boards, since the exposed coating sections of the composition cannot be completely removed during developing, which results in problems in subsequent plating or etching. In the photosensitive compositions according to the invention, these disadvantages cannot be observed. Various compositions are described, which contain photo acid generators and a polymer resin with side groups, which can split acid, said polymer resin being formed by polymerizing at least three different acrylate- or methacrylate-monomers.

A protective layer or film is deposited onto a face surface of a plastic substrate, e.g., a PMMA shaped article, by (a) placing such plastic substrate on a weakly or unpolarized electrode comprising a plasma-generating circuit, (b) plasma-pretreating the plastic substrate in an oxygen plasma, under primary vacuum, by a pulse of electrical power density of such minimum magnitude as to oxygen-activate a face surface thereof, and (c) plasma-polymerizing at least one organosilicon monomer onto the face surface of said plastic substrate, also under vacuum and from an oxygen/organosilicon monomer plasma, whereby depositing a thin protective layer or film thereon.

A method for improving the paintability of a shaped object of which at least the outer portion is made of a polyamide/polyolefin alloy, wherein an electrical discharge is made to act on a gas in order to create a cold plasma type reactive gas stream, and the shaped object is brought into contact with the reactive gas stream thereby produced and with an oxygen source in order to oxidize the surface of the shaped object. The method is particularly useful for treating trim for motor vehicles as well as items of garden furniture prior to painting.
