A toy dart includes a deformable cap that safely impacts a target. The cap includes pairs of polygonal apertures formed on the outer surface of the cap which form substantially parallel hollow passages that provide spaces that allow the cap to deform upon impact with a target.

An air piston assembly including a piston cylinder having a main cylinder portion and a piston cylinder extension portion that extends from the main cylinder portion and that is configured to travel between extension arms of a standard projectile magazine, a piston head configured to travel in and out of the piston cylinder, the piston head having an extension that is aligned with the piston cylinder extension portion, a piston arm extending from the piston head, and a piston spring disposed around the piston arm. In exemplary embodiment, a toy launcher incorporates the air piston assembly.

A toy projectile launcher having a housing, a projectile container, a cocking slide, an air piston assembly, a barrel interface section, and a detachable launch barrel is disclosed. The projectile container is adapted to hold projectiles, such as foam darts. The cocking slide can be moved for-ward and backward. When the cocking slide is moved backward the air piston barrel moves backward, and a projectile is moved in front of the air piston assembly. When the cocking slide is moved forward, the projectile is pushed into the barrel interface section by an air nozzle disposed on the front of the air piston assembly. A first airtight seal is formed between the air piston assembly and the rear of the foam dart, and a second airtight seal is formed between the barrel interface section and the detachable launch barrel.

A toy projectile launcher having a projectile container, a cocking slide, and a housing is disclosed. The projectile container contains projectile holders that are adapted to hold a projectile, such as a foam dart. The cocking slide can be moved forward and backward. The housing houses a launch barrel and an air piston assembly. When the cocking slide is moved backward the air piston barrel moves backward, and a projectile holder is moved into a firing position. The foam dart is held in place by a resilient stopper. When the cocking slide is moved forward an air nozzle engages a surface of the resilient stopper and advances through the projectile holder, pushing the foam dart into the launch barrel. An airtight seal is formed between the launch barrel and air piston assembly.

A toy projectile launcher having a storage belt, a launch barrel, a cocking slide, an air piston assembly that includes an air nozzle and an air piston barrel, and a housing is disclosed. The storage belt contains projectile holders that are adapted to hold a projectile, such as a foam dart. The cocking slide can be moved forward and backward. When the cocking slide is moved backward, the air piston barrel moves backward and the air nozzle is retracted from a projectile holder, providing clearance for advancing a next projectile holder into a firing position. When the cocking slide is moved forward, the next projectile holder is advanced into the firing position and the air nozzle pushes on the next projectile holder to form an airtight seal between the launch barrel and air piston assembly.

A toy launcher including a housing, a storage cartridge configured for placement into an opening of the housing, with projectiles within the storage cartridge held in a first orientation, a cocking slide movably attached to the housing between a first position and a second position, a reciprocating frame operatively connected to the cocking slide, a projectile housing pivotably attached to the toy launcher housing adjacent to the storage cartridge, and a reciprocating feed lever operatively connected to the reciprocating frame. Movement of the cocking slide from the first position to the second position in a first priming step and then back to the first position in a second priming step causes the feed lever to push a projectile from the storage cartridge into the projectile housing, pivots the projectile housing so that the projectile is in a second orientation, and places the projectile in the second orientation at a firing position within the toy launcher.

A toy projectile launcher having a projectile drum, a cocking slide, and a housing is disclosed. The projectile drum contains projectile holders that are adapted to hold a projectile, such as a foam dart. The cocking slide can be moved forward and backward. The housing houses a launch barrel and an air piston assembly. When the cocking slide is moved backward the air piston barrel moves backward, the launch barrel is moved forward away from a first projectile holder in the plurality to facilitate loading of a projectile into a holder. When the cocking slide is moved forward an air nozzle forms an airtight seal between the air piston barrel and the projectile holder, while the launch barrel is moved backward to form an airtight seal between the projectile holder and the launch barrel.

A toy launcher having a telescopic barrel, a plunger element, and a compression spring that biases the plunger element against a rear wall of the telescopic barrel. When a cocking slide is moved from a forward position to a backward position, the plunger element partially compresses the compression spring against the rear wall of the telescopic barrel, while the plunger element couples to a trigger assembly. Fluid from a reservoir enters a fluid chamber formed by the plunger element and the front part of the telescopic barrel. When the cocking slide is moved from the backward position to the forward position, the rear part of the telescopic barrel fully compresses the compression spring. Fluid is expelled from the fluid chamber when the coupling between the plunger element and trigger assembly is released.

The lower layer, having two openings, is supported by exterior posts and an interior wall between the two openings. The upper layer, having two openings, is supported by exterior posts and an interior wall that is laterally offset from the interior wall of the lower layer. The upper and lower layers are separated vertically by a substantially flat divider. The upper layer is more rigid than the lower layer such that the lower layer of the cap deforms more than the upper layer of the cap upon initial impact with the target.
