An example apparatus includes a detector to process an input audio signal and identify a portion of the input audio signal including a sound to be evaluated, the sound to be evaluated organized into a plurality of audio features representing the sound. The example apparatus includes a quantizer to process the audio features using a quantization process to reduce the audio features to generate a reduced set of audio features for transmission. A system and method for managing digital rights. The method includes receiving a Universal Resource Identifier (URI). The URI is used to identify a location for a user selected digital media item. The digital media item is to be played in a local area network (LAN). The selected digital media item is retrieved from a content server over a network connection. If the selected digital media item is encrypted, a license to decrypt the selected media item is obtained. Access to the license is based on a plurality of access rules. The plurality of access rules are based on the terms of the license. The plurality of access rules may also include personal owner rules. If a request for the license adheres to the access rules, the license is received via a secure out of band transfer and the selected digital media item is decrypted for playback via one or more media rendering devices.

A system and method for managing digital rights includes receiving a Universal Resource Identifier (URI). The URI is used to identify a location for a user selected digital media item. The digital media item is to be played in a local area network (LAN). The selected digital media item is retrieved from a content server over a network connection. If the selected digital media item is encrypted, a license to decrypt the selected media item is obtained. Access to the license is based on a plurality of access rules, which are based on the terms of the license. The plurality of access rules may also include personal owner rules. The present disclosure describes a number of embodiments related to devices, systems, and methods locating a an object using ultra-wide band (UWB) radio transceivers embedded in carpet or other flexible material that may be rolled up and moved to various locations. Once in a location, the carpet may be unrolled and the multiple embedded radio transceivers may receive a signal from a tag attached to the object sending UWB radio signals. Based on the signals received by the UWB radio transceivers, various processes including time-difference on arrival, time-of-flight, and phase shift may be used to determine the location or the movement of the object.

Technologies are described herein that allow a user to wake up a computing device operating in a low-power state and for the user to be verified by speaking a single wake phrase. Wake phrase recognition is performed by a low-power engine. In some embodiments, the low-power engine may also perform speaker verification. In other embodiments, the mobile device wakes up after a wake phrase is recognized and a component other than the low-power engine performs speaker verification on a portion of the audio input comprising the wake phrase. More than one wake phrases may be associated with a particular user, and separate users may be associated with different wake phrases. Different wake phrases may cause the device transition from a low-power state to various active states.

Mechanism and apparatus for seamless voice wake and speaker verification

Particular embodiments described herein provide for a wearable electronic device with a biometric sensor and logic. At least a portion of the logic is implemented in hardware. The logic is configured to receive input data indicative of biometric input and attempt to authenticate the input data based, at least in part, on at least one biometric credential of an authorized user. The logic is configured to establish a wireless connection to a smart device, determine whether the smart device is included in a trust group of one or more smart devices, and send a communication to unlock the smart device when the input data is successfully authenticated and when the trust group includes the smart device.

Systems and methods may provide for using an audio front end of a mobile device to sampled audio from an audio signal during a first portion of a periodic detection window, and reducing a power consumption of one or more components of the audio front end during a second portion of the periodic detection window. Additionally, a determination may be made as to whether voice activity is present in the audio signal based at least in part on the sampled audio. In one example, the length of the first portion and the length of the second portion are defined by a duty cycle of the periodic detection window.
