A rocker lever assembly including lubricant directing structure is provided for an internal combustion engine drive train. A lubricant deflecting shroud is secured to a joint-contacting end of a rocker lever above open lubricant channels to direct lubricant to an adjacent drive train joint and minimize airborne lubricant.

A gear train housing of an engine of the type having an internal gear space located within housing parts which include at least one housing body part and at least one cover part. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the lower end of the gear space is substantially embodiment, the lower end of the gear space is substantially of a V-shape defined laterally on opposite sides by a radially facing sloping walls of the housing body part. In order to minimize oil related problems, bosses on the upwardly facing sloping walls have a wedge-like shape with a downwardly inclined, inwardly facing surface and are free of upwardly sloping surface portions which can collect fluid flowing over the bosses in proximity to a gasket seal between edge faces of the housing parts, and a splash shield is formed for preventing excessive quantities of oil from being splashed, by a crankshaft gear, into the area of other gears of the gear train, so as to reduce associated frictional losses.

An improved bearing assembly which may only be assembled when its principle components are properly fitted together is disclosed herein. Generally, the bearing assembly includes a saddle member and a bearing cap, each of which includes a main bearing receiving, semi-circular recess for journaling the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The recess of the saddle member is flanked on either side by first and second alignment slots, and the recess of the bearing cap is flanked by first and second mounting shoulders which are asymmetrical in shape with respect to the axis of rotation of the semi-cylindrical recess, and which are insertable within the first and second alignment slots of the saddle member, respectively. However, dissymmetry between the first and second shoulders prohibit the first shoulder from being inserted into the second alignment slot in a manner to cause proper alignment of the semi-cylindrical recesses. In the preferred embodiment, the shoulders are both generally rectangular in shape, with one shoulder being longer than the other.
